Chapter Nine
July 1869
Fernando brought his Aunt Yolanda and her baby to the bunkhouse the next day. He installed them in the cook’s room, and she explored the kitchen and pantry. She immediately began preparing a Mexican beef stew.
Rufus and Gloria returned to Denver with the other Freedom Towners. They needed to get ready for the long roundtrip to the end of the line. It was a glorious, brisk day and they had a leisurely trip just enjoying each other’s company.
Since they were passing close to Clark and Margo’s house, they decided to quickly visit and check on Margo and the baby. Margo’s dog welcomed them when they stepped down from the wagon seat. Annie met them at the front door and ushered them into the parlor where Margo was sitting with the baby.
