Chapter 6

Nathan and Lisa arrived at the restaurant just as the evening crowd began to settle in. The place was warm and elegant, softly lit, the kind of simple, classy restaurant that felt intimate rather than overwhelming. After giving their names, they were politely escorted to their reserved table near the window. Lisa smiled as she sat down. “This place is beautiful,” she said. “I thought you’d like it,” Nathan replied, smiling. They ordered their drinks first, then their meals, having a conversation as gentle music played in the background. For a moment, everything felt perfect, calm, hopeful, untouched by the outside world. But from afar in the restaurant, unseen by them, Natasha was watching. Her eyes burned with anger as she stared at the two of them together, laughing softly, leaning closer. Something dark settled in her chest. She turned away abruptly and walked toward the service area, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. She stopped one of the staff members, a young woman in uniform. “Can I get a uniform like yours?” Natasha asked smoothly. “I’ll pay you two thousand dollars.” The woman’s eyes widened. She hesitated, fear flickering across her face. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” she said quietly. “That’s against the rules.” Natasha leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. “Five thousand dollars.” The woman swallowed, glancing around nervously. After a long pause, she nodded. “Okay, ma’am,” she whispered. “But please, you never saw me.” Minutes later, Natasha reappeared, dressed as a server, a face mask pulled up to hide most of her features. When the waiter approached Nathan and Lisa’s table with their drinks and food, Nathan glanced up. Something about the woman’s posture felt familiar. He frowned slightly, studying her eyes above the mask, but dismissed the thought just as quickly. “I’m imagining things,” he told himself. “Ma’am,” the server said politely, turning to Lisa, “may I pour you a drink?” “Yes, sure,” Lisa replied with a smile. In one swift, deliberate motion, the woman finished pouring and then poured the glass forward. The drink splashed down onto Lisa’s head. Lisa screamed. The restaurant fell silent as gasps rippled through the room. Lisa sat frozen, shock and embarrassment flooding her face as liquid soaked her hair and dress. Before anyone could react, Lisa stood up and slapped the woman hard across the face. “How dare you ruin my outfit!” she shouted, her voice shaking. Natasha’s eyes flashed with fury as she raised her hand to strike back, but Nathan was already on his feet. He grabbed her wrist firmly, stopping her mid motion. “Natasha?” he said, disbelief and anger crashing into his voice. “What is wrong with you?” She struggled, trying to pull free, but Nathan tightened his grip. “You have gone too far,” he said coldly. “How dare you ruin my date? I’m going to make sure I deal with you.” Lisa, humiliated and overwhelmed, couldn’t bear the stares any longer. She rushed past them toward the bathroom, tears threatening to spill as she tried to clean herself up. Nathan’s voice cut through the tension, sharp and final. “Natasha, I never want to see you in my life again,” he said angrily. She laughed bitterly, her eyes wild. “So that’s the low class, classless b***h you chose over me?” she sneered. “That’s who you chose?” Rage surged through Nathan. For a split second, his hand tightened, his body reacting on instinct, but he stopped himself, clenching his jaw as he forced control back into his limbs. Natasha leaned closer, her voice dripping with venom. “I’m going to make sure I deal with her.” Nathan’s eyes hardened. “Try it,” he said coldly, “and you’ll see my wrath.” Her smile widened, dark and unsettling. “This is just the beginning,” she whispered. “If I can’t have you, no one else will.” Nathan didn’t wait to hear another word. He turned and rushed toward the restroom, his heart pounding. From behind the door, he heard the unmistakable sound of someone crying, soft, broken sniffles that twisted painfully in his chest. “Lisa?” he called gently. “Are you there?” “Yes,” she replied, her voice shaky. “I’m here, just trying to clean myself up.” He let out a breath of relief. “I’m so sorry about earlier, Lisa,” he said, his voice full of regret. The door opened, and Lisa stepped out, her dress soaked, her hair damp, her eyes red from crying. Seeing her like that only deepened the guilt clawing at him. “I’m really sorry,” Nathan said again. She shook her head faintly. “It’s fine,” she said quietly. Then she looked at him, confused and hurt, clouding her face. “But who was that girl? Why would she do that to me?” Nathan hesitated. “It’s a long story.” Lisa’s voice tightened. “Who is she to you, Nathan?” He swallowed. “She’s my ex girlfriend. We’re no longer together, but she keeps disturbing me.” Lisa stepped back, pain flickering across her expression. “I’m sorry,” she said softly, “but I can’t deal with this.” “Lisa, please,” Nathan begged, reaching out. “Let me explain” She shook her head. “Nathan, please let me be.” He stopped himself, letting his hand fall to his side as she turned away. Lisa walked out of the restaurant without looking back, booked an Uber, and headed home. Her mind replaying the scene over and over, embarrassment and hurt twisting together, she felt foolish for ever letting herself hope. Nathan remained standing there, anger and pain crashing through him at once. His thoughts burned with one question “how did Natasha find out?” he asked h imself. He pulled out his phone and called James. When James answered, his voice steady and reassuring, Nathan spoke through clenched teeth. “She’s gone too far. I don’t know how she found us.” James’s voice came through the phone, sharp with disbelief. “How did she even find you? Natasha is really getting out of hand.” Nathan ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room. “I honestly don’t know what to do about her anymore,” he said, frustration heavy in his voice. James took a slow breath, forcing calm into his tone. “You’ll sort this out. Just calm down for a moment. Have you spoken to your dad or her dad?” “Not yet,” Nathan replied. He stopped pacing. “But I’ll do that now.” “Good,” James said firmly. “They need to know. They should be able to caution her.”
