Elena’s fingers hovered over the phone. The unknown number flashed across the screen: Fire or safety. The words burned in her mind. She wanted to throw the phone, to run, to disappear. But she couldn’t. Something inside her wouldn’t let her move. The city night pressed in around her, alive with neon lights and distant traffic. Harrison’s words echoed in her head: Step into my world or stay in yours. Every part of her wanted to run, but another part the reckless part wanted to see where the fire would lead. The unknown number buzzed again. Impulsively, she answered. “Elena,” Harrison’s voice came through, low and confident. “Stop hiding.” “What do you want?” she asked, her voice tight. “To see if you’re brave enough to face me,” he said. “To face the fire you’ve been running from since the first night.” Her chest tightened. She wanted to argue, to hang up, to reclaim control. Instead, she realized the truth. She wanted him. “I… I don’t know if I” she began. “You do know,” he interrupted. “Don’t lie to yourself. Don’t lie to me.” Her legs moved before her brain could catch up, pulling her toward the park exit where he had been waiting. The city lights blurred past her, a river of motion, and with every step, the pull grew. Harrison waited, tall and silent, his presence demanding attention. “You’re late,” he said, smirking. “I… I needed time,” she admitted. “Time is a luxury,” he said, stepping closer. “And I don’t have any.” Elena’s pulse kicked up. She wanted to scream, to run, to tell him to leave. But the truth was undeniable. She wanted him. Harrison reached for her hand. Just one touch and the world narrowed to the electric spark between them. “You think you can walk away from this. But you can’t. Not tonight, not ever.” “I’m not running,” she said, voice firmer than she felt. “You are,” he said softly. “Every time you fight me, every time you resist, it’s because you’re scared of feeling alive.” Alive. The word hit her chest like a hammer. He was right. She had never felt this way before. Safe, respected, powerful, she could find those elsewhere. Harrison made her feel dangerous, awake, untamed. “I can’t give you everything,” she admitted, stepping back. “I can’t… I won’t lose myself in this. Not again.” “You won’t lose yourself,” he said. “You’ll find yourself. But you have to choose. You can’t float between fire and safety forever.” Her knees threatened to buckle. Every rational thought screamed at her to leave. But every other part ,the reckless, desperate part wanted to surrender. Harrison’s hand slid up her arm, brushing her neck. “One night. That’s all it takes,” he whispered. “One night and nothing is ever the same again.” Her chest heaved. She wanted to push him away, hold onto her independence, but she didn’t. Her body, her heart, her mind betrayed her. The city was quiet except for distant traffic. In that quiet, Harrison’s lips found hers again. Not tentative, not careful. A kiss that demanded, consumed, shook her to her core. Her hands went to his chest. For the first time, she stopped thinking. Every nerve, every pulse, every reckless heartbeat screamed surrender. When he pulled back, just enough for her to breathe, his eyes bore into hers. “Decide, Elena. Fire or safety. Not later. Not tomorrow. Now.” Her chest heaved. Her mind spun. Her rational self wanted to run, but the reckless part ,the part that had leaned into danger before wanted him. She stepped back. “I… I can’t. Not yet.” Harrison’s jaw tightened. His hand lingered on hers, firm. “Time is gone, Elena. You’ve flirted with this choice too long. Every second you hesitate, the world changes. The question is… are you brave enough to face what comes next?” Before she could answer, her phone buzzed again. Unknown number. She stared at it. The words this time were sharper: Choose before he does. Her stomach dropped. Before he does? She turned to Harrison, eyes wide. “Before he does? What do you mean?” He didn’t answer. His gaze already scanned the shadows. A chill ran down her spine. Something or someone was coming. Harrison’s hand tightened on hers. “Stay close,” he said. “And whatever you do… don’t let them see you sweat.” The city lights flickered. A sharp, echoing sound cut through the park. A figure emerged from the shadows, slow, deliberate. Elena froze. Every instinct screamed to run. Harrison stepped in front of her, his presence a shield, tense and commanding. The figure stopped a few feet away. And then Elena saw it,the smirk, the confidence, the danger. Her heart hammered. This night was no longer just about fire or safety. Someone else had arrived to decide her fate. Harrison’s grip on her hand tightened. “Whatever happens next, you follow my lead. One wrong move and ... The stranger took a step forward, and Elena realized with a sinking certainty that the game had just begun. The fire she thought she could control was about to consume her completely.
