Chapter 4: The Hidden Fairy

Chapter 4: The Hidden Fairy Lyrielle entered the classroom. As expected, no one noticed her. Relief washed over her. She always knew that one day, the veil would lift, and people would finally see her—see how gorgeous she and Scarlett truly were. But for now, she remained unseen. Silently, she navigated the rows of desks, avoiding unnecessary contact, before sinking into her seat. ******* Across the room, Anne was watching Jessica, absentmindedly tuning out the chatter of her friends. Something had caught her attention. She tapped the girl beside her. "What?" Pearl turned, confused. Anne gestured subtly. "Have you ever noticed that girl?" Pearl, Cheryl, and Sally all followed her gaze. A pause. "Uh… who?" Cheryl frowned. "I think she means the blonde one," Sally said, squinting. Pearl’s brows knitted together. "That's strange." "What is?" Cheryl rolled her pen between her fingers, thinking. "If she were new, the school would’ve introduced her. But I feel like… I’ve never seen her before." "She’s not new," Anne murmured. The three girls exchanged glances. "I don’t think anyone has ever noticed her before," Anne continued, still studying Lyrielle. Pearl pouted. "Poor girl." Sally shot her a suspicious look. "What do you mean?" Pearl shrugged. "It's not easy to be that pretty and yet completely ignored. That would hurt any girl's ego, you know?" Cheryl snorted. "Please. I don’t see what’s so special about her. If anything, that blonde hair is obviously fake." "The school won’t take it lightly if they find out she’s wearing a wig," Sally commented. Anne finally spoke. "She’s not wearing a wig." All three turned to her. "That’s her natural hair. And whether we admit it or not, that’s her real color too." Pearl's mouth fell open. "Wow..." Sally shook her head in disbelief. "That's amazing." Cheryl crossed her arms. "How do you know?" Anne exhaled. "The school would have known from the start. And if she were constantly dyeing it, it wouldn’t look that healthy." Cheryl scoffed. "Pity someone as plain as her got such beautiful hair." Anne’s brows furrowed. Couldn't they see it? They were fixated on her hair—but Anne could see beyond that. Lyrielle wasn’t just pretty. She was otherworldly. Her porcelain-pale skin glowed like moonlight, her large golden eyes were pure and haunting. There was something almost unreal about her, as if she should be asleep for a hundred years in an ancient castle hidden deep in a forest. And yet—no one saw her. No one, except her. ******* On the other side of the school, Scarlett sat at her desk, flipping through her notes. At home, she was cheerful and carefree. At school, she was cold and distant. But even with her cold demeanor, there was no denying that she was a stunning beauty. While Lyrielle’s beauty was ethereal and enchanting, Scarlett’s was bold, fierce, and dangerous. Her inky black hair cascaded down her back like silk, her amber eyes burned with intensity, and her plump, rosy lips gave her a dangerously alluring appeal. And just like Lyrielle—she was unnoticed. Or at least, she had been. Until today. Scarlett felt it. Eyes. Glancing. Staring. Watching. She kept her face neutral, but she subtly scanned the room. It wasn’t just a few people. It was half the class. Her fingers twitched against her desk. What the hell? She grabbed her phone and checked her reflection. No smudged makeup. No weird stains. So what were they looking at? Scarlett knew she was beautiful. But she had never experienced the spotlight before. Never had people acknowledge it. And if there was one thing she knew about people, it was that they were monsters wearing human skin. And monsters only took interest when they found something they wanted.
