At least that should make you understand that you are nothing but a collateral. My possession—and mine alone to ruin,” Lucian said coldly before turning around and walking out. The moment he disappeared through the door, Aurelia broke down in tears. Is this her life now? Is this what she had become? A collateral. She could still remember the night her parents disappeared. FLASHBACK — 5 DAYS AGO 💥 “Mom, are you guys going somewhere?” Aurelia asked, watching her parents walk down the stairs with a few things packed into a small bag. Her father was holding a little box, and both of them were acting strangely—way too suspiciously. “No, sweetie. We just need to give these things to people who need them,” her mother replied. Aurelia looked at her mother's bag again. She immediately spotted one of her most treasured necklace boxes. Something wasn't right. Her mother would never give that necklace away. “Oh, alright. Be back early, and take care of yourself,” Aurelia said. “Sure, we will,” her mother replied with a smile. They were halfway across the room when her mother suddenly stopped. “Relia, don't go anywhere today, okay? Please remain at home.” Aurelia smiled and nodded. “Alright, Mom.” She turned to her father, who had been unusually quiet. “Dad, are you okay?” “Yeah, I am. Take care of yourself, Relia. And don't forget that Daddy loves you,” he replied. He gave her one last look before walking out with her mother, shutting the door behind them. Aurelia couldn't shake the strange feeling in her chest. Something wasn't right. Maybe I just need to sleep. She stood up and went upstairs to her room. After lying down, she soon drifted off to sleep. But Aurelia was woken up with strange footstep sound, she immediately felt as though someone else was in the house. She looked around nothing. Maybe she is a just stressed out She got out of bed and walked toward the door. The moment she opened it, she was met by an unfamiliar figure dressed entirely in black, their face hidden behind a mask. “Assassin!” Aurelia screamed. Before she could slam the door shut, the stranger grabbed her and injected her with something. Within seconds, everything went black. The next thing Aurelia remembered was waking up in a dark room. She tried to move, only to realize that she was restrained by chains. “Somebody help! Help!” she screamed. “Do you really think that will help you here?” Aurelia froze. A man stepped out of the darkness. His piercing blue eyes immediately caught her attention. He looked young—perhaps twenty-seven or twenty-nine—and undeniably handsome. For a brief second, Aurelia almost thought he was there to save her. Then he spoke. “So this is the collateral they gave me.” “Collateral? What do you mean by that?” Aurelia asked. The man smirked. “Your parents owed me a loan six years ago. They couldn't pay it back, so they placed you as collateral and ran away. They knew I'd come looking for them.” Aurelia stared at him in disbelief before scoffing. “If you want to kill me, then kill me instead of trying to blame my death on my parents,” she hissed. He scoffed. “Do you really think I need to manipulate my victims before killing them?” He leaned closer. “Tomorrow, we're getting married.” Aurelia's eyes widened. “Don't even think about running, Aurelia. I will hunt you and I will find you. That's assuming you're even able to escape from here.” With that, he walked out and locked the cell behind him. ****PRESENT***** Now, she was trapped in this hell. Aurelia wiped away her tears before standing up and making her way to the bathroom. She changed out of her dress, placed it in the empty basket, and stepped into the bathtub. The bathroom wasn't too big or too small. It wasn't luxurious, but it wasn't terrible either. Compared to the cell she'd been kept in, it felt almost comfortable. After finishing her bath, Aurelia walked over to the small wardrobe. Three dresses. And three pairs of underwear. "Seriously? Am I supposed to survive with only three dresses?" she thought She had no choice. She picked one of them, put it on, and lay down on the bed. Before long, sleep claimed her. --- Aurelia woke up with cold water being poured over her. She jolted upright. Lana stood beside the bed. “Get up. Boss ordered you to come downstairs for dinner,” Lana said before walking out. Aurelia ignored what had just happened. She stood up and followed her. She was still wearing the wet dress. Finding the dining room wasn't easy, but eventually, she managed to locate it. Lucian was already seated and eating. Of course he hadn't waited for her. Just seeing him sitting there was enough to make fear crawl through her body. She took slow steps forward and stopped at the opposite end of the table. “You called for me, Master,” she said, keeping her head lowered. “You're ten minutes late,” he replied without looking up. “I'm sorry, Master. I had difficulty locating the dining room.” “Did I ask for your explanation?” Aurelia swallowed hard. . What have I done? Her wet dress had already begun to dry against her skin. "Pick a porridge a sit on the ground you have 5 minutes to eat and get out, your presence disgusts me" hearing that Aurelia looked up just to bump into his eyes “I'm so sorry, Master. I didn't mean to look directly at you,” she pleaded desperately. Lucian didn't respond. He simply continued eating as though she wasn't standing there. Aurelia kept her head lowered, hoping his silence was a good sign. Then— CRASH! The sound of breaking glass echoed through the dining room. Aurelia cautiously looked up. Two bottles had been smashed on the floor, the broken pieces scattered across the ground. One of the mafioso stepped away. Aurelia's heart began pounding. Then she heard Lucian's cold voice. “Walk over there and kneel on the broken bottles, Aurelia.” Her eyes widened in horror. “What?!” TBC...
