NICHOLAS I stood behind my desk, my fingers wrapped tightly around the glass in my hand. I could feel the delicate crystal trembling beneath my grip, threatening to shatter into a thousand pieces. I was fighting the urge to hurl it against the wall, to watch as it exploded into a kaleidoscope of shards.
