Chris stood with his arms crossed, blood dripping from his forearm. His armor was half-melted.
Ellis leaned against the wall, stunned silent.
Ares stood in the center of the crater.
He hadn’t spoken since the fight ended.
Nir arrived seconds later, walking through the smoke.
“Report.”
Chris didn’t take his eyes off Ares.
“One of them came.”
“She didn’t come to kill him.”
“She came to wake something up.”
Nir muttered, “Then the countdown has begun.”
