Ella's POV
I entered the house, I was greeted by the tense atmosphere. Mrs Smith and Clara were in a deep conversation and I could sense that they were discussing me and Elijah. I tried to overlook it and greeted them politely as I made my way to climb the stairs.
However, Clara stood up and confronted me, her voice dripping with anger. "So, you're pregnant, and you think that's enough to keep Elijah?" she sneered.
"You don't know how far we've come, how much I've invested in him. I know his weaknesses, his strengths, everything about him, and you think your pregnancy will stop me? You'll soon get tired, just like everyone else who's tried to come between us".
Mrs Smith stood up, her eyes scanning me from head to toe with a mixture of disdain and curiosity.
"You don't know where you are and what you're getting yourself into," she warned me. "This house will be a tough place for you and I'll make sure to find out everything I need to know about you, so I can prove to Elijah that you're not good enough for him."
I felt a sense of unease in my stomach, knowing that my past could be my downfall. Mrs Smith and Clara didn't know about my previous marriage or that the pregnancy wasn't mine and Elijah's biological child.
I tried to push the thoughts aside and focused on the present, telling them that I loved Elijah and would do everything to make this marriage work and would stay by his side no matter what.
As Clara and Mrs Smith confronted me, their words cut deep. They spoke to me like a servant, with Mrs Smith saying that Elijah couldn't marry just anyone, but what they didn't know was that I came from a wealthy family myself and my family owns a big company of their own too, but I'd had to give up my identity because of what my ex-husband, Michael, had done to me.
Determined to prove myself and to show them that I wasn't someone to be underestimated, I stood up to them.
"I love Elijah," I said firmly. "And nothing can stop me from marrying him, not even you."
Clara took a step closer, her eyes flashing with anger, but I stood my ground.
"Don't even think about laying a hand on me," I warned her. "I'm carrying Elijah's child, and he won't take it lightly if anything happens to our baby."
Clara was surprised, unlike the other girls she had come across while trying to be close to Michael my confidence struck her. I acted like a real Wilson and stood up to her and Elijah's mom.
There was heavy silence, and they threatened that they would dig up everything about me and ruin our engagement, but I refused to back down.
With a newfound confidence, I turned and climbed up to my room. While I was alone, however, doubt began to surface. What if they discovered my past? What would happen to me? How would Elijah react when he found out the truth?
I thought about my mother, my ex-husband, and the life I'd left behind. I wondered how my mother was doing, if she was thinking of me. Having lost my phone during the accident, I had no means of communicating with her. But as I looked around the beautiful room, a smile spread across my face.
This is my new home now and I have Elijah. I laid on the bed. I couldn't help but think about Elijah. I was starting to develop feelings for him, but it was complicated.
Given my experiences with Michael, I struggled to let my guard down and our planned marriage made it even harder for me to hold my emotions.
Immediately I rested on my bed, I heard the sound of Elijah's car pulling up. He went upstairs, dropped his bag and greeted me warmly.
"How are you doing?" he asked; Concern was written on his face. I told him I was fine, and he hugged me gently, relieved that I'd had a safe trip home. He handed me a few parcels he'd bought for me, including a cold ice cream.
I smiled, touched by his thoughtfulness. As I licked the ice cream, I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to have a loving husband like Elijah. I couldn't wait for him to bring up the topic of marriage again, eager to start making plans for our future together.
After Elijah settled in and rested, he asked Ella about her willingness again to go through with their previous discussion.
"Are you serious about doing this?" he asked, referring to their conversation in the car. Ella nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes, I want to do this for you". Elijah smiled, relieved.
"Then we need to get to know each other better," he said. "We need to be convincing, so let's learn more about each other."
We were eating snacks and chatting. Elijah shared his favorite food, color, and hobbies. When it was my turn, I pretended to struggle to recall my past, pretending to have amnesia.
"The only thing I remember is that I'm Ella Wilson, I'm about to marry you, and I'm pregnant with your child," she said with a smile.
Elijah smiled and said, "Fine, we will start thinking of the wedding plans and ideas from tomorrow. Let's go to bed".
