24 Thursday, January 28, 2016 The last three days, Hugh avoided Anneliese as much as he could during the day by camping in the general’s library, pretending to study the castle’s floorplans. Not that he wasn’t actually studying them. He was, or he was trying to, anyway. Some things on the maps didn’t seem to correspond with the physical reality of the place. Once, when Thomson inquired if he’d like some tea, Hugh asked if the mystery areas of the map made any sense to him. “Those are the old tunnels and secret passages, sir. They’re very old and not in use these days, but long ago, some laird had them added to the castle in case he ever needed to escape.
