He discovered two facts which made his heart clench inside his chest: She slept so silently and unmoving, she seemed to not even be breathing; and she curled onto herself, knees pulled tight up to her chest, her head almost inside her forearms—reminding him of how he had found her on that fateful day so many years ago.
