57 I sat in an armchair, still warm from Mike’s body, feet tucked beneath me. All of the lights in the room on. And I was calm. Really, I was. Mike and Roger, not so much. They were arguing by the bathroom, trying to keep their voices down so Roger didn’t have to work his magic smoothing things over with the hotel again. My hearing had recovered well enough to follow their bickering. “You just left her there? Alone?” Mike demanded, dumbfounded. Taller than most people, including Roger, for once he was showing his full height. “What were you thinking?” “She’s right here,” I muttered, not that either man heard me. Roger looked away. “You don’t think I know how stupid I was tonight? How absolutely f*****g stupid? She could’ve been…” He didn’t finish. Stupid. I sighed with a realization:
