Chapter Twenty-Two
KIT WOKE IN DARKNESS. She looked around her for a glimpse of light and her eyes fell on a crack in the window letting through a thin moonbeam. She got to her feet, and excruciating pain radiated through her. She was in a gray cell, dressed in an old flannel night dress and pain gnawed at her arm. When she looked down, her stomach sank. She was in one of Volt's prisons. The pain on her arm was a tattooed number, marking her as an inmate.
Her breath caught in her throat, and her vision became blurry as her thoughts ran into one another. A holographic image flickered onto the wall to her left.
