The Change

391 Words
Returning to school, Eliza felt a newfound confidence as she noticed everyone gawking at her. However, as she looks around there’s something strange about the popular kids. The same people who once tormented her sniffed the air; they are different as well. As the full weight of the realization hits her, her body is filled with anxiety and fear. “Are they going to harm us” asked Eliza. “I’m not sure, but they seem to be from our pack, the one our biological family is from '' said Marygold. She continues to move as calmly as possible, but then it hits her. She smells a captivating scent that reminds her of a stormy rainy day. As she looks around to find the source of the delicious scent, she locks eyes with Jack. He’s one of her biggest bullies, and the leader of the popular squad. Her wolf yips out “MATE” excitedly. “Go to him, he’s our mate, he’s meant to love us and care for us” said Marygold. Jack is handsome, charismatic, undeniably popular. “He can’t be our mate! He tormented us, made me feel insignificant, made me feel like an other, and didn't believe he would love and protect us. Plus, he has a girlfriend, remember.” Eliza tries to reason with her wolf. “I think you’re wrong, and I think you need to give him a chance. He was raised knowing he has a wolf, he knows about mates, he will accept us.” Pleaded Marygold. “What if he doesn’t want us?” That thought was haunting. We would be abandoned again by the one person who was created to be with us. It would mean we are truly unlovable, truly alone. “He will want us and love us, trust me.” Marygold was confident in her answer, Eliza on the other hand wasn’t so sure. Jack’s girlfriend Sarah was the hottest girl in town. She’s another tormenter, if not one of the worst. At the beginning of high school, she broke Eliza’s arm after a guy Sarah liked at the time gave Eliza some attention. After that incident everyone abandoned her. Eliza kept walking through school as if she knew nothing, avoiding people. But she could feel eyes constantly on her, and something told her it was Jack.
