KIERAN!
"Are you done f**king?"
I crossed my arms, leaning against the doorframe.
"Holy hell—!"
My Beta sprang away from the little blonde writhing beneath him.
"Can’t you knock?" he hissed, yanking up his pants in a hurry while his latest fling clutched her dress to her chest.
"My bad. You sounded like you were done."
I stepped into the office, taking a seat.
"We have business to discuss."
"This business couldn’t wait for me to finish?" Darian Blackwood grumbled, flinging the girl’s underwear at her.
"No."
The girl still cowered to my right, her hands trembling as she held her dress against her. I turned to face her.
"How old are you?"
She had a soft, round face, pale skin, and the undeniable look of someone barely legal.
"I-I’m t-twenty years old, Alpha," she stammered, her head downcast, blonde hair falling over her face.
"Hey, didn’t you tell me you were twenty-two?" Darian asked, his tone rising in disbelief.
Darian would have been the perfect Beta if he didn’t think with his dk half the time. He chased skirts at every opportunity. I constantly reminded him that women would be his downfall.
"Try again," I growled at the quivering girl.
A bit of pressure on her windpipe, and she’d have a real reason to shake.
"I-I am telling you the truth. I’m twenty," she gasped, her knuckles white against the fabric of her dress.
"So why did you lie to me?" Darian snapped, stepping closer and forcing her chin up.
"You’re lying."
I crossed my legs, watching the interaction with mild disinterest.
"Let me ask one more time. How old are you?"
A sudden loud cry burst from her lips.
"E-Eighteen! I turned eighteen yesterday!"
She collapsed onto her knees, forehead touching the ground.
"I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Please—!"
Darian’s mouth fell open.
"You—you—"
"Leave us."
She scrambled to her feet so fast I thought she might trip over herself.
"Yes, Alpha!"
She bolted out of the office, her bare feet slapping against the floor.
"Bitches these days," Darian grumbled, throwing himself into a chair and covering his eyes with his arm.
"She pursued me for weeks knowing she was a child."
He muttered several curses under his breath for a full minute.
I had long since accepted Darian and his flaws, but I also lived with the knowledge that one day, I might have to replace him.
He was loyal, reliable, and a beast on the battlefield, but he could never resist a tight waist and pretty face.
"Have you ever thought about cutting off your d**k?" I asked dryly.
The bastard jerked upright, cupping his crotch with both hands.
"You’d be a lot less trouble if you didn’t have a bigger c**k than a brain."
Darian blinked.
"So… you think I have a big c**k?"
I glared at him.
His grin vanished.
"With all the work you give me, the least you could do is let me enjoy the warmth of a tight, wet p**sy."
"Don’t be crude."
My nostrils wrinkled in distaste.
"Don’t be stuck up, Kieran."
He smirked.
"When’s the last time you got laid? A week ago? A month ago?"
He sighed dramatically.
"You’re making people scatter like flies because of all the frustration rolling off you."
"If I slashed your throat right now, all my frustration would disappear," I mused, pressing my fingers together.
"I didn’t give you this office so you could f**k eighteen-year-olds in it."
"Killing may be fun," he admitted, stretching his arms behind his head. "But it’ll never be as interesting as a woman’s body."
"There are a thousand ways to end a man." I narrowed my eyes. "You’re just too stupid to learn more than one."
"Whatever. At least I f**k better than you."
I ignored him.
"What did you want, anyway?"
Darian’s obsession with women had sidetracked me from why I came here in the first place.
Then I remembered.
I gnashed my teeth, recalling the letter that had just arrived on my desk.
"Why did I receive a letter thanking me for agreeing to attend some Alpha’s handover?"
I cracked my stiff knuckles.
"That Alpha is Alpha Warren of the Moonveil Pack," Darian said, pumping a fist into the air with a stupid grin.
"He’s handing over the pack to his son in a few days, and we’ll be attending."
"No, I will not be attending."
My voice dropped, almost becoming inaudible.
"As my Beta, you are supposed to handle this business."
"Yes, but you’ve been an Alpha for over five years and refuse to attend any meetings outside the pack," he argued.
"It’s bad for your image."
I glared at him.
"Before you murder me, just listen."
He sighed.
"You’re the Alpha of the most successful pack on the planet. Bloodmoon Pack has seen a twenty percent increase in wealth and power since you took over—but it’s not enough."
Darian was reckless, but on rare occasions, he had useful ideas.
Unfortunately, I already hated where this conversation was going.
"It’s enough that I improved the pack," I snapped.
"No. People are terrified of you!"
His voice rose in exasperation.
"And the fact that no one outside our pack knows what you even look like? It’s made you into a myth, Kieran. A monster."
I smirked.
"That’s exactly what I want."
Fear was a useful tool. A good leader ruled with strength and fear.
People called me The Bloody Alpha, The Devil of Bloodmoon, The Mad Alpha.
Those who had seen me fight with their own eyes had one name for me.
"The Devil."
"It’s affecting our relationships with other packs," Darian pressed.
"And the fact that you never attend these functions? I suspect that’s also why you haven’t found your mate yet."
"I don’t need a mate," I snapped.
Darian brought up this topic too often. If he wasn’t trying to shove a woman into my lap, he was nagging about my lack of a Luna.
I had no time for a mate.
Bloodmoon Pack was not yet where I wanted it to be, and having a woman clinging to me was the last thing I needed.
The moment I stepped into Moonveil Pack, something shifted.
I smelled something intoxicating.
Perseus growled lowly, restless and on edge.
"Find it. Find it!" he snarled.
I followed the scent, pushing open a door—
And froze.
A red-haired woman screamed at a smaller girl, her voice shrill with anger.
And my heart slammed against my ribs.
"Mine."
I barely processed Darian’s voice beside me.
"Wow. I’ve never met anyone more f**kable than this girl," he murmured.
Then—
Boiling water spilled onto my mate’s skin.Boiling water spilled onto my mate’s skin.
And I snarled.
"Run."
