-- Unspoken Words --
Sofia woke up to the scent of freshly brewed coffee. For a short moment, she forgot where she was -- she forgot about the threats, the fear, and the weight of Zhybrix’s words from last night. But as she sat up and took in the unfamiliar room, reality came rushing back.
She was in the hideout.
A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she pushed off the blankets and stepped out of the room. The main area was filled with a dim light, with sunlight barely filtering through the covered windows. Lorenzo leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee, while Zhybrix stood at the kitchen corner, pouring a second cup.
His usual dark clothing made him look just as closed off as ever, but Sofia had seen the cracks in his armor. Last night, for a moment, she had glimpsed something real…something he wasn’t ready to admit.
“Morning,” Lorenzo greeted with a nod.
Zhybrix turned to her, wordlessly holding out a cup of coffee.
She hesitated for a bit before taking it. “Thanks.”
He only nodded, his expression remained unreadable.
Sofia took a sip of a coffee, letting the warmth settle in her chest, but the silence in the room was heavy…suffocating. She hated how everything between them felt unfinished, like an unspoken conversation still hung in the air.
“So,” she finally said, setting her cup down. “What’s the plan?”
Lorenzo exhaled, setting his mug aside. “We need to find out who’s behind this before they make another move. That means staying low and keeping a close eye on everything.”
Sofia frowned. “And how long am I supposed to just... stay hidden?”
Zhybrix met her gaze, his voice steady but firm. “As long as it takes.”
The answer made her stomach twist. She didn’t want to be trapped here indefinitely. She had a life…her cafe, her routine, her sense of normality. But now, everything revolved around Zhybrix’s world, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for that.
Still, she couldn’t ignore the way he was looking at her.
Like she was the only thing keeping him grounded.
And that scared her more than anything.

By midday, Zhybrix had gone into the back room with Lorenzo, talking about their next move. Sofia was left alone in the hideout, walking back and forth, her mind spinning.
Then, her phone buzzed.
Her heart jumped as she grabbed it, but the number wasn’t saved.
She hesitated for a second before answering. “Hello?”
Silence.
Then, a woman spoke…calm, sure of herself, and strangely familiar.
“You must be Sofia.”
Sofia gripped the phone tighter. “Who is this?”
A soft laugh. “I guess Zhybrix didn’t tell you about me. I’m Lily.”
Sofia’s chest tightened.
“Relax,” Lily went on. “I’m not here to scare you. I just wanted to... give you a little advice.”
Sofia’s heart pounded. “Advice about what?”
Lily let out a slow sigh, almost like she was bored. “You’re wasting your time. Zhybrix doesn’t belong in your world, Sofia. He never has. And no matter how much he tries to act different, he’s still the same man who built his life in the dark.”
Sofia swallowed. “He’s not that person anymore.”
Lily laughed again, soft but knowing. “Oh, sweetheart. That’s what I used to think too.”
Before Sofia could say another word, the line went dead.
She stared at the screen, her hands shaking.
Was Lily right?
Was she just fooling herself into believing Zhybrix could change?
-- The Storm Inside --
Sofia was still holding her phone when Zhybrix walked back in. His sharp eyes locked onto her right away.
“What’s wrong?”
She hesitated, not sure if she should tell him.
But she knew better than to hide things from someone like Zhybrix.
“Lily called me,” she said. His face darkened instantly.
He stepped closer. “What did she say?”
Sofia bitten her lips. “That I’m wasting my time. That you’ll never really change.”
For a moment, she thought he’d deny it…and tell her Lily was wrong. But he didn’t. He just looked at her, something unreadable in his eyes.
And that silence told her everything.
Something inside her broke.
“Maybe she’s right,” she whispered before she could stop herself.
Zhybrix’s expression turned cold. “You think I haven’t tried to change?”
“I don’t know what to think anymore.” She let out a shaky breath. “I just... I don’t want to be stuck in something I don’t understand.”
Zhybrix clenched his fists, like he was fighting a battle inside himself. “I never wanted to drag you into this.”
“Then why did you?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
His eyes met hers, filled with something new…something almost desperate.
And for a moment, she thought he might say it. Might finally admit what they both already knew.
But instead, he stepped back.
“Get some rest,” he simply said before turning away.
Sofia swallowed hard as she watched him leave.
She wanted to believe in him.
She wanted to believe that whatever this was between them wasn’t a mistake.
But maybe... maybe she was falling for a man who would never be able to love her back.
And that hurt more than any danger she could face.
