Devica PART 10
Xion nodded, “Yes. Mary mentioned it’s his dream but his family wanted him to take a business course instead.”
“I worked part-time as a server in a bar last time. There was an incident and he was the one who handled the situation,” Nephrite casually mentioned, excluding his involvement. He’s still embarrassed every time he recalls what happened. Even if it was not his fault, Marcus saw him in a drugged state. Who knows what he did while he was not in his right state of mind?
“Oh, that’s probably owned by his uncle.”
“Maybe it’s inevitable to take a business course then. Since their family runs their own business.”
“Yes, they own some establishments.” Xion agreed nonchalantly.
Lunchtime boosted everyone’s energy with the delicious food.
“Brother Raven, you even managed to replicate Aunt’s cooking to perfection!” Kevin complimented. His cousin, Von nodded vigorously.”
“I told you, luck was on my side when I found Raven.” Mary boasted jokingly.
“Yeah, congratulations on being an airhead.” Xion teased her. She answered him with a slap on the shoulder.
After the meal, they resumed the meeting. This time, it’s about what image each employee will portray.
Nephrite was amazed at how interactive these people were.
They deliberate on which image suits them and defend if they think it was not. They also suggested ideas for the monthly special event.
“Where are you guys getting all these ideas?” Nephrite asked, amused as he glanced over the list of everyone’s suggestions and saw ideas that were usually catered for women.
“Female friends.”
“Cousins.”
“Sisters.”
The chime on the door rang softly but enough to draw everyone’s attention.
Marcus smiled, “Sorry for being late.
Unlike the last time Nephrite saw him, he was currently wearing a white shirt and a light blue hoodie. He was also carrying a blue knapsack.
Marcus looked so much like a university student right now.
“Wow, it feels like we are back in our school days.”
Marcus laughed then greeted every one of them. Afterward, he stood beside Nephrite and whispered, “Why did you not text me?”
“Ah?” Do I have to send him a message? Why?
He stared at Marcus who was smiling at him.
Nephrite fidgeted as he turned his gaze on the other’s shoes. “Ahm, I forgot?” He scratched his temple and quickly changed the subject. “How are you, Marcus?” He smiled at him lopsidedly.
Marcus chuckled. “FIne. I had to finish some things,” he turned to Mary and Xion, “So those two could formally e*****e me.”
Mary chuckled, “I can even increase your pay if you’re willing to roleplay on special events.”
Marcus gave a quick glance at Nephrite. “Sure, as long as Raven would be my CP.”
The people surrounding them cheered and whistled. Nephrite did not know what to say and felt a bit awkward.
Xion seemed to notice the change in atmosphere, though. He teased Marcus.
“Too early to put fences. Is the land yours already?”
“Not yet, that’s why a lease will work for now.” Marcus grinned.
Nephrite, “...”
Mary interjected, “Alright, alright, let’s all finish planning our characters then as for this month. We will see which of you guys are most comfortable with. So as for now, we will base the compatibility from your answers on the form I gave you earlier. Oh, wait!”
She rummaged through her bag and pulled out the questionnaires she made for the staff. She gave each to Nephrite and Marcus.
Nephrite stared at the five-page questionnaire. It contained personality tests as well as questions about preferences, plans in life, and…*cough* bed compatibility.
Reading all this, Nephrite felt all his blood rushing on his face, ears, and neck.
Marcus whistled, “Mary, your tastes really are amazing,” his tone sarcastic.
But Mary just laughed at him. “You know me well.”
Xion shook his head.
It was already five in the afternoon when their meeting ended.
“Are you heading for the bus stop?” Marcus asked as they walked out of the cafe.
“You did not bring your car?”
“I don’t have a car now. Those two did not tell you?” Marcus asked, pertaining to Mary and Xion.
They walked side by side to the bus station.
“Ah, yeah. Xion told me that you will work here while you take the teaching program because you need money.” He answered flatly. “But I did not expect it to this extent.
“Our family business was so unrelated to education.” Though they technically ‘educate’ some people. Marcus sneered.
“Then you’re lucky. You really like teaching and despite your family contradicting you, you’re already at the step towards your dream.” Nephrite turned to Marcus. “Isn’t it nice?”
Light flickered in Nephrite’s eyes as he said those words. Whether it was due to the street lights or the cars’ headlights, at that very moment, those sceneries and words got engraved in Marcus’ soul.
_________
The Deneb University entrance examination happened a week later.
When Nephrite arrived at the university, parents and other family members were already at the main entrance, anxiously waiting for their children who would also take the exam today.
Nephrite smiled at the scene. Seeing such a kind of love made his heart warm a bit. He did not experience this kind of caring before. Even if the affection was not for him, it gave him a bit of happiness.
Well, someone cared this way, too. Someone who still cares despite losing his memories.
Remembering his partner, Nephrite observed the people whom he passed by today. He still had not sensed Xei’s presence anywhere. Did Xei’s aura or temperament change in this world?
If Nephrite would base on the people who proactively helped him, he could only think of Lin Ye and Marcus.
But he could not make inappropriate physical contact with these two so he was unsure. Aside from that, it was impossible to be Lin Ye.
Though Lin Ye treated him very well, the former’s actions had subtle hints that there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Nephrite took a deep breath as he reached the examination room. He put his personal worries at the back of his mind. The task was his main priority as the vessel’s wish. Once he achieved his goals, then he could figure out Xei’s identity and start looking for his partner.
The exam was split into two parts. Two major subjects in the morning and another two in the afternoon.
