Devica PART 4 Nephrite smiled. Thankfully, he decided to learn how to cook in the second world. Ignis was right. Culinary skills will always be a life-saving ability. “Chef? Yes, we still have not hired a chef but we need a part-time worker for that.” “Then, may I apply for that job? I have no experience but you could try if my cooking suits your taste or not.” “Alright then but let’s wait for my partner first. He’s the one who gets to decide these things. How about coming back two days from now? “Alright,” he paused, “Do you mind suggesting some stories? I would like to familiarize myself with different genres in case I get hired.” Mary’s eyes shone, “Of course, of course! It’s my pleasure.” Nephrite talked for half an hour more regarding the cafe rules and other related stuff. He was about to leave when the chime on the sliding door rang. The man's gaze passed at him, “Mary.” “Gosh, Marcus! You really came!” “Of course. You need me here.” Mary snapped her finger. “Yes, since you’re here,” she turned at Raven, “Do you have any other appointments at lunchtime?” “None.” Nephrite scheduled this day solely for job hunting. “Great! Marcus, why not stay for lunch and judge Raven’s cooking? He applied as a chef.” “Sure,” Marcus turned to him as well, “Nice to meet you.” Marcus nodded at him. Nephrite introduced himself as well. Mary brought them to the nearby supermarket. “For now, we will buy the ingredients Raven would use. Nephrite, feel free to pick up the ingredients you need. For meals, omurice has always been present in many themed cafes since you can use it as dedication. If you could cook omurice well, then it's a pass but if you have other recipe ideas that suit well, then go for it.” “Sure.” Nephrite smiled at Mary. He did not notice Marcus’ deep-set eyes were on him. __________ Nephrite woke up feeling great the next day. Just like he thought, he snagged the job. He will return to the cafe in two weeks' time for the first staff meeting. Now that he solved his work crisis, he now had to fulfill the vessel’s dream. At some point in Raven’s life, he discovered that he wanted to write stories. However, at that time, he was already ruined financially so he gave up on it. Nephrite has experience in writing stories and digital art. It was his main source of income along with playing online games. The vessel’s grades were already bad but applying for art courses would not be a problem for Nephrite. Even if he could not take a literature course, there were still other ways. After searching the internet, he found out that Deneb University offers digital art and animation courses. Nephrite grinned. Seems like the face slapping route was an inescapable plot. Without further ado, he set an appointment for the entrance exam. Afterward, he looked online for temporary jobs. After applying for some jobs scheduled in the coming days, he went out to find some temporary jobs for today. Art courses were expensive. Nephrite needed a lot of money if he wanted to fulfill this vessel’s wish. Raven had very bad luck with money. His relatives would leach him dry if Nephrite won’t do something about it. He was worried that he would get affected by the vessel’s emotion once again. Nephrite found a temporary job in the afternoon. Giving away flyers was not bad at all when the sun already set and it’s rush hour. He was diligently giving away the restaurant flyers when someone patted his shoulders. “Raven?” Nephrite looked at the hesitant girl behind him, The girl has a small face with peach-blossom eyes. She looked so pretty and delicate that any straight man or maybe even women would fall for her looks easily. Nephrite stared blankly at her. His eyes did not flicker but he cursed himself. I forgot about Raven’s ex-girlfriend that he always avoids after breaking up! How should I deal with her? Raven broke up with Queen despite having feelings after the latter’s mother confronted him. Raven had no plans on reconciling with her, the reason why Nephrite relaxed. He did not expect to actually bump into her in public! Nephrite personally had zero interest in women, how could he do this? He decided to go with the flow, “Yeah? How are you?” Queen did not waste his time. “Do you have time? Let’s talk at that restaurant,” she pointed to the flyers. “I need to finish giving this in two hours. I still have an hour left to complete the job.” “Then, I will wait for you there,” she said then entered the restaurant. Nephrite could only wish the girl to give up waiting for him. But his luck was really bad today. Queen did not leave even after two hours. Nephrite ordered two orange juice. Queen stared at the floating ice cube in the glass. As if drawing her words from it. Finally, she said, “Raven, tomorrow, could you come to my graduation party?” Nephrite gritted his teeth, “Why would I? We’ve broken up already. It’s been a few years already.” “Can’t you do me a favor? I mean, just for the old time’s sake?” “No,” he declined. He had scheduled work for tomorrow. Queen decided to ask him some questions, hiding the sadness she felt. But Nephrite was not moved one bit. If he did not know what this girl would do, he might have been moved by her actions. After she left, Nephrite did not rush to his home. Instead, he went to Lin Ye’s office. Lin Ye was surprised when his assistant informed him that Raven was outside. Still, he took an hour before he finished dealing with his client. “Sorry for disturbing Uncle Ye. Someone was following me.” Nephrite apologized. He decided to hide here so Queen won’t be able to follow him to his house. “Why did you not report it to the police? Stalking is also a crime.” Nephrite shook his head. “Not needed, Uncle. This person was an old acquaintance and we only met today by coincidence while I’m on a part-time job. She hasn't done a thing to me yet so it’s fine. She might not be able to do something ridiculous so let’s leave her for now.” Lin Ye noticed something in his words but decided to ignore it. He peaked at the glass door but saw no one. “Did she leave already?” “I’m not sure. Uncle, let me stay longer.” “Okay, I will deal with some papers first. Call me if anything happens.” Nephrite thanked him before walking towards the window. He saw Queen’s crouching reflection on the nearby car’s side mirror. He frowned. The vessel managed to escape this scenario in his original timeline but why did Nephrite encounter it? And why are there so many people who want to trick this vessel? Nephrite’s frown deepened as he contemplated it.
