Chapter Two

1275 Words
Julian’s pov “She’s getting married to Damian Frost ,boss” ..my assistant said…my grip on the file tightened.. Claudia had been my long-time crush from college days..she had this aura I haven’t seen in any other woman..but I never reached out, not when she was obsessed with that animal.. I saw through him ..he didn’t love her ,he just needed someone to cover his student loans but she wasn’t one to go straight with such info. Damian was stupid but cunning as well; he always covered his tracks. “Sir, your meeting with Frost enterprise is in an hour”… I felt disgusted. The only reason I decided to help that bastard build his company was because of Claudia. Since I couldn’t muster up the courage to tell her how I felt, she should at least be happy with the man she wants to be with. Mum would always tease me about the girl I told her about during my prime...only she can do that. She knows getting married and settling with anyone was a no..I kept waiting silently for something to go wrong so I could sweep her up her feet, but that didn’t happen. “I’ll be there in five minutes”, I told my assistant… I walked into the boardroom ,he was there with some of his business associates then I saw her .. Claudia’s friend ,Audrey…was she working for him now last I checked she was my Godfathers granddaughter she was supposed to be working for her dad….She’s had tried to get my attention back in college but I brushed it off like it was nothing. Every second into the meeting made me want to end the contract but I couldn’t..I was doing this for her and that’s all that matters. I found his relationship with Audrey fishy but with no evidence I couldn’t confront them. With the way they exchanged weird glances you would not believe she was Claudia’s friend. I would have made sure Claudia worked for me but this bastard wouldn’t allow it. The meeting was over ..I walked out of the boardroom with someone following right behind … “Mr Knight, can I speak to you please he said” .. I turned to see Damian….my wedding is coming up next weekend..we’d be glad if you can attend. I felt like someone plunged a dagger into my heart .. I just nodded.. “give the invitation to my assistant”. I said walking straight towards the elevator. The elevator doors slid shut, swallowing the chaos of Frost Enterprise behind me. But the silence inside felt worse than the meeting, worse than Damian’s voice, worse than the invitation still burning in my palm like poison. Next weekend. Claudia. Marrying him. Walking into a future that didn’t deserve even the shadow of her. My jaw tightened. I wasn’t the type to punch walls or throw chairs that was for men who didn’t know the worth of building something from the ground. My anger was quieter. Sharper. Colder. The kind that built fortunes. When the elevator reached the top floor of Knight Industries, I stepped into the office I built from ashes,I remember when I took over it was close to bankruptcy but here we are now.. The skyline stretched before me , San Francisco glowing gold, indifferent to my misery. My mother always said the city mirrors you. Tonight, it mocked me. “Sir,” my assistant murmured carefully, “should I RSVP to Mr. Frost’s wedding?” My throat tightened. For a split second, I imagined saying yes. Imagined standing in the crowd, pretending to support a union built on deception… …while watching Claudia walk down the aisle toward a man who didn’t deserve her name on his tongue. It was the end of work hours and I hadn’t done anything..I was fully distracted … The fear of losing her didn’t even equal the fear of her marrying the wrong person… “Sir, your next appointment is at the hospital”.. I couldn’t forget even if I wanted to..I had to visit my Godfather.. Mr Blackwood..the one who put me through business, invested in my company when all my father's associates abandoned us. To say his family were money hungry was an understatement..I had to put the doctor on chokehold to make sure he didn’t heed to any of their demands. I remember him falling into a coma for two weeks about a month ago..how easy it was for them to ask for no resuscitation.. They went as far as asking for the life support to be unplugged.. His butler called me right in time .. “Sir should we move it forward “…I gave him a stern look. That was his cue to make all necessary arrangements..The old man hated flowers.. Just come with a good chess strategy and his favourite tea. Two hours later I was headed towards his room, he looked weaker..but the smile he gave me since I was a kid hadn’t changed. The nurses came right in time to tell me he needed rest as he had an episode a while back. I dropped his tea and asked them to give him when he felt better.. I said goodbye and he nodded..with all his strength The old man wasn’t getting any better….and those wolves he called his family didn’t give two f***s about it. On my way out I headed to the doctors office to check on his progress and like I thought there wasn’t any..all we had to do now was wait .. I sternly reminded him as always about the old man’s family .. He wasn’t going to die because of them..If death was to come it should be on his own accord. TWO WEEKS LATER Here I was preparing to go watch the woman I loved walk down the aisle to go marry another man.. What’s done is done and there’s no stopping it..I was late already..I had to stop by and check on the old man ..as I wouldn’t be going there later in the evening. I plan on getting drunk tonight..maybe just maybe I’d feel enticed by a woman enough to bring her home.. I didn’t even have a relationship with this woman but the thought of sleeping with other ladies felt like I had cheated on her. “Sir the wedding was called off”...I heard a voice behind me and it sounded like that of Luca, my assistant.. It could be my subconscious mind playing tricks on me.. But no it was real..it was f*****g real.. He was smiling from ear to ear if I wasn’t so excited I would have sent him out immediately.. He knew not to leave any details… He left her at the altar that bastard…why though I had to find out. I had to make sure she was ok….i didn’t need anyone driving me to the venue… I arrived just in time to see her getting into a cab..I called Luca to arrange for a guard to follow her secretly.. And find out what happened. I had more pressing business to attend to ….that bastard was going to pay for breaking her heart. I called my secretary …”Send an email to Frost enterprise informing them of our plans to terminate the contract effective immediately “ No questions asked if they wanted a reason I’d give them one ..right before I drag the whole company to the ground….i had enough evidence to sue them to oblivion. He has seen my kindness only because of her but now he was going to meet my wrath.
