CHAPTER 7 The wind howled, shaking the roof, and shadows danced along the walls as the fire in the main hall’s stone hearth wavered. Kaspian paced between oaken tables. Iskra, Mama’s dog, followed at his heels. If it weren’t for her normally placid dog’s distressed whining, he would have thought this was all nothing. What had driven Mama to leave the manor in this weather? Was it because they’d fought? He’d racked his mind trying to remember when he’d last seen her. Not since their fight.
