Chapter 08

1680 Words
“Who the hell do you think did was that?” Lola asked looking at Faye who shook her head and walked to the window and peered outside. She saw a carriage and horses and someone dressed in the castle’s uniform standing in front of their door. “Oh my god, it is the driver. He is here.” Faye announced excitedly as they both rushed out of their room and got to the parlor in time just as their mum was opening the door for the man. “Good evening sir, you must be the driver who is sent to pick up Tes…my daughter.” Their mum said as the driver nodded his head and said, “Yes I was sent to bring the girl that had the royal invite, so am I at the right place?” He asked as Faye answered, “Yes, I am the one. I am with the invite.” She said walking forward to show him the card. The driver took it, and examined it. It had Prince Derek’s signature on it so it was legitimate. “Well, very then we have to get moving, the party must have commenced already and Prince Derek is expecting your arrival.” He said as Faye nodded her head and stepped out of the house when her mum pulled her back gently and pressed something in her hand and said, “Remember what we discussed.” She kissed Faye on her forehead and waved her off as Faye entered the carriage and waved back at them as she was being driven away. “Do you really think Faye would be able to get the job done?” Lola asked immediately they closed the door as their mum turned and said, “She has to….she needs to rope one of the princes around her fingers so that we can use it as an avenue to climb to affluence, but don’t worry your pretty head about it, just go to bed. Where is that damn girl Tessa anyways?” Her mum asked looking around as Lola replied, “Don’t worry about Tessa, she is in the basement. Good night mum. See you tomorrow.” She said kissing her cheek before heading back to her room to sleep, while her mum sat down on the sofa and was reading some magazines. Meanwhile Faye was holding her breath as she glanced down at the little vial her mother had pressed into her hand and exhaled. She knew exactly what it was, it was the same drug that they had used on Tessa, she had to spike Prince Derek’s drink and make him sleep with her, so she would be able to rope him into marrying her, according to her mum’s wishes and she was a little nervous. Would she be able to pull this off? She held on to Tessa’s necklace and fondled it between her fingers as she glanced outside seeing the houses they passed. “Quite nervous about the evening eh?” The driver said in his calm and kind voice as Faye was snapped back to reality as she nodded her head and said, “A bit nervous actually. I am not quite sure I know what to expect there.” She said as the driver nodded his head and said, “Well, it is a ball mostly for vampires who loves drinking the blood of humans being and you are one so technically you are a snack in their eyes.” He said as Faye looked at him with absolute horror as he burst out laughing and said, “You don’t need to be so frightened. Don’t worry you were specially invited by one of the royal princes, the rest know better than to lay a fang on you. You will be fine, all you need to do is always stay by Prince Derek’s side and clear off King Lucien’s path. He is the only one who decides if you lives or die, and he is quite cold.” He warned as Faye nodded her head and said, “I will adhere to all you have said, thank you.” “No problem, I have a daughter exactly your age but she died, so I feel responsible for you in a way, after all I don’t want to lose another girl in the same way I lost my daughter. That is why I am telling you all this, but you must be quite special for Prince Derek to invite you and sent for a carriage to get you, how did you know him by the way?” He asked as Faye quickly replied, “From school, we are in the same class.” “Oh that is quite nice. Well we have reached the castle.” He said as Faye quickly looked out through the window and her phone fell to the ground. “This was the first time that she had been this close to the castle and not to lie but it looked magnificent with the glittering light and fancy decorations. She could see other people already heading inside as gentle music could be playing and she was so happy. She couldn’t believe her eyes. “You can get off now. And don’t worry, Prince Derek will find you, I am afraid I can’t be of service any longer.” He said as Faye got off the carriage and climbed the steps gracefully, this was it no turning back now. **** King Lucien was paying attention to what Eldered was saying ever since he led him away from his brother. He had wanted to continue questioning Derek who the lucky girl was but that opportunity was taken away from him. And right now he was in the chambers getting ready for the ball, as Eldered was still there blabbing on and on about how important this ball was and more importantly how urgent it was that they find his new sacrifice. “Time is of the essence, only a sacrifice can help thwart the great evil that would soon befall us and you are the only one that can make the choice. I hope you know how important this is to the entire kingdom.” Eldered said as Lucien spread his hands for the maids to adjust the silk robe, “I have heard you already. It is all you ever talk about, I haven’t found anyone yet, but once I do I will let you know. But for now, I would like to focus on the ball.” He said as Eldered nodded his head and said, “Forgive me if I sound too pushy, I overstepped my bounds.” He said with a bow as Lucien just waved it off. “King Lucien, we are done with preparing you for the ball. You may have a look in the mirror and let us know if you are satisfied with the results.” One of the maids graciously said as Lucien turned and saw himself. He realized that they had packed his long hair and had worn him the royal crest and his robe was plated in gold designs and beautiful designs. He was overall pleased with the results and couldn’t find any faults at all. “I am satisfied with it, all of you may leave, I want to gather my thoughts before the ball.” He ordered as everyone bowed their head and left leaving him alone. He walked to his bed and sat down as he took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. Finding a sacrifice? After what happened to Zelina, he swore that the one he love will never go through that again. And it seemed like he was going to have to break his promise once more. He stood up and walked to the window and looked down, just in time to see someone step down from the carriage and although it was fast, the necklace she had on her neck seemed to glow. Who was this person? And he also looked at the driver who was leading the horses by their reins and discovered that it was the same driver that was talking to Derek earlier, he leaned in closer to check if he could get a glimpse of her face but she had already walked out of sight. He frowned at this and decided to investigate when he was hit with the most pleasant smell. He was shocked because it was forcing out his vampire side against his will as he felt his claws come out and his fangs extended as his eyes began to shine bright red. He saw a musky red dust cloud that seemed to run along the town as if it was a path and a deep pull to follow the path. He was about to do so when there was a knock on the door and Eldered entered once more. “Sorry to disturb you King Lucien, but it is time….is everything alright?” He asked as he saw King Lucien leaning on the wall head bent and breathing heavily. “Everything is just peachy, let’s go.” He said as he raised his head and Eldered saw that he was back to normal, no red eyes, no fangs or claws either. He took a cursory look and shrugged his head. Maybe it was a sudden ache but it seems to have gone now. “Right this way then King Lucien, your subjects awaits.” Eldered said as he pulled the door wide open for King Lucien to pass as the royal announced yelled, “And now it is time for King Lucien to grace us with his apperance. Long live the Vampire King.” He yelled as everyone went on their knees as a sign of respect as he walked down the stairs. He was going to find out the reason for the scent that drove him crazy later, now all he had to do was pay his respects and find out who the strange girl Derek had brought is.
