Chapter 6

1074 Words
Am I dead? I died right? I remember myself dying of a heart attack, so why... "s**t!" Exclaimed I, What the hell happened?! I sprung from the car's driver seat realizing I'm still breathing as if I didn't went through that excruciating heart ache last night. Panting, I scanned my body to check if I'm indeed alive. "Was that a dream?" I unbuttoned my bloodied uniform and pinched parts of my body to feel if I'm really awake, I only jolted in pain. "Ouch-" yeah, I actually didn't die. Last night was strange, I remembered having a sudden agonizing heart ache and falling unconcsious but I strangely feel alright now. Actually feeling even better than before. I started removing my uniform, grabbed a black local band shirt from the camp bag and took a black hoodie that I spotted on the car's backseat. It smelled new so I decided wearing 'em. After cleaning my baseball bat, I checked if there were zombies around before rolling up the garage door and quickly hopped in the car to hit the road. I planned to leave Edendale district at dawn to find and check up on Barb's parents, that's the only thing I could do in his favor; To atleast check on his loved ones. But due to peculiar circumstances, the sun was already up when I woke up. "It's probably 11 am or so." I was staring straight at the road ahead to spot and avoid zombies while stirring the car wheel, giving me a full view of my wrists. It was only that time I notice a small 'birth mark' like pattern appeared in my left wrist, just under the greenish veins. It was a small unknown pattern, I can't really describe it's strange shape but I knew having a new birthmark overnight isn't a normal thing either. I shrugged it off and focused on the road, it's best to avoid accidents if I don't want to attract zombies- "What the-" Cars, busses and other vehicles were jammed in a traffic ahead of me. I stopped midway on the road connecting towards the district border, it was located in front of another High School in Edendale. The school is full of students and it's the least places I wanted to get stucked in. Crap! I tried moving back but a large group of zombies were approaching, it'll be hard for me to hit a number of them with the back of the car. "s**t s**t s**t!" I put on the camp bag and snagged the baseball bat that was lying flat on the passenger seat. I jumped out of the car and started running forward towards the jammed vehicles as I kill few zombies on my way. "f**k, it'll be hard fighting them down here." I climbed upon a car and jumped up on the roof of a bus. I dropped the bag on the floor and readied myself to kill whoever climbs up on the bus. "Don't think you can get to eat me, you s**t!" The bat swung fullforce midair before hitting a zombie's head and crushing its skull. That went on and on, there seem to be endless zombies as I kept throwing kicks, punches and swinging my bat innumerable times. "Crap, these fuckers aren't running out." I panted, barely keeping myself up and swinging my bat with much force. "I can't just die here!" But how can I survive? I'm already at my limit, escaping would be hard with these bunch of zombies left. I tried swinging my bat but the force wasn't enough to kill it, "s**t!" I used the bat to sheild myself from the zombie as it launched itself towards me, knocking me down. Is this my end? Well, a coward who left his friend dying deserved this anyways. I wonder if this is how Barb felt when I chose to abandon him to die. I should've just died together with him in that place, we should've just faced that death together as brothers. I'm a coward who has no balls to face death with pride, I've lost my honor the moment I stepped back and turned from my bestfriend to save myself. I'm selfish, I deserved this- "This is a good place to breakthrough, lad." There was a voice, I stilled, there was a bang probably from a gun nearby. The next thing I knew was the zombie laying dead on top of me, it's head was severed and a smoking shotgun bullet was sticking out from it's skull. "W-who-" "Stand up!"-I turned to the voice's direction-" or those remaining zombies will eat your ass!" It was a girl in a senior Highschool uniform with a shotgun on her hand, standing against the light of the afternoon sun. Her silhouette stood there but I can feel her glare from afar. She has an unfathomable aura, that girl seemed strong despite her small built. The croaks and groans of the zombies grew louder! She was right, those remaining zombies were attracted by the gunshot and are now headed to my direction! "I'm dead! I'm really gonna die!" I exclaimed, Throwing the dead zombie from the bus roof, I stood up groggily as I lifted my bat. Ready to pounce despite the trembling of my hands. A zombie have reached the roof! I swung my bat to hit it's head and kicked it from the roof. I punched and kicked whoever comes up, straining the last bit of my strength. I fell on my knees as I threw the last punch to a zombie, I couldn't move anymore. I was gasping for breath, almost paralyzed. Drenched in blood and sweat, my whole body is aching, I couldn't move further. "Well you must've breakthrough your limit by now." The girl said, I gaped at her when she jumped from the school's rooftop where she was standing a while ago, gracefully landing on the bus as if there wasn't a large gap from here! I could clearly see her now, the girl looks younger than I thought. Her electric green eyes stared feircely, she has a short jet black hair and a pair of goggles strapped on her head. She was clearly a highschooler, with her height but something tells me otherwise. "Y-You, h-how did you-" "You can only ask for questions if you're alive, save it."-She cut me off- "I have zombies left to kill."
