Saw Her In A Dream

908 Words
"I know this is going to sound weird, but I first saw you in a dream," I say, smiling at Kate while thinking of the particular dream. "Really? How was it? Was I doing anything stupid? Or maybe- oh you naughty boy! It was that kind of dream wasn't it?" She teased, punching me playfully before snuggling closer. "Actually, it started like this," I then told her how it was. It went like this. It was a pretty normal dream, considering that I have been getting a lot of nightmares lately. It started on a hill, and I was looking up, watching the stars. The wind was blowing a cool, silent breeze and there were owls hooting somewhere in the night. There were a few bats flying overhead, but other than that, the sky, the meadow before me, and the silence of it all, was perfect. "That's it? Where do I come in the picture?" She asked. I just shrugged before answering. "Just wait some more, I was coming to that part." "Do you like it?" A voice beside me suddenly said. I face the direction of the voice and saw a girl, tan and slender, with her curly hair flowing out behind her. She had warm hazel eyes that seemed to stare at my soul. "So, did you like it?" She asked again. I don't know what she was talking about, and I asked her about it. "There, look up. Look at all those stars, all those constellations. Do you like it? this night sky?" She worded it properly this time. I just nodded and said yes. "Well, if you liked it, would you give me a kiss? I made them that way for you," "That did not happen!" Kate said, smacking me again. "Yeah, it did." I retorted "Did not." "It did" "It did not," she faced away from me, crossing her arms. "Alright, it did not. but it seems like that's how you do it for me nowadays." I knew I got her there and she faced me again but did not speak. I just went ahead with my story. " I've always liked watching the stars. Especially during the full moon, when the moon adds its own light and beauty to the canvas sky," She said, then looked up to the sky again, admiring it. I admired her instead. The dream shifted after that, and we were in some fancy restaurant overlooking the Seine. We were eating some delicious looking food- were those lobsters? When the girl leaned in to try and kiss me. However, before she got too near, one of the lobsters grabbed me in its pincers and pinched. Then I woke up. "Really? That's it?" Kate asked, laughing. "Yeah, or at least, that was the first time. You know, when I woke up from that dream, I was wondering who the girl was. And why she would appear in my dreams. I met you a few days later." I confessed. "That's silly. Or maybe prophetic. I still remember that first time, when you bumped into me at the fast food chain and I dropped my drinks." Kate laughed. I laughed along with her. "Yeah, you were pretty mad then, even though I was the one who got soaked and stained." We laughed again. "Except that wasn't the first time I met you." Her eyebrows raised, and her head perked up. "No? I don't seem to recall you from before, so when was that?" She asked. "You were buying at Starbucks. I was working part-time, and they assigned me to name duty. I take the orders and the names and write them on the cups. When I saw you and realized you were the girl from my dream, I made sure to take a long look at your name." I smiled at her. We shifted positions, and she was on my right now, leaning on me. "Look around us. This is just like my first dream. The sky above, with all its stars and constellations, the meadows ahead, the tree behind. All we need are the hooting owls and the flying bats and it would be as if I was dreaming again," I said, just in time for an owl to hoot somewhere. "Oh, there it is. Now I'm living the dream." I said. "First dream?" She looked up at me with questioning eyes. "You mean you had more dreams about me?" I pecked her on the forehead. "Yes, actually. The night after I learned your name, I dreamt about you. I could see your face, then you were running along the beach, and I was taking pictures." I replied. "You know, my friends always tell me I kind of have prophetic dreams. Sometimes they actually happen. Do you-" "Of course! Next summer, let's go to the beach. I have a friend there who likes to surf. Her name's Bailey, and I'm sure you'll like her." Kate interrupted. "Don't focus on those things too much yet, though," I said. "Let's just stay here, at the moment. Now. Look at the sky. Look at the stars, the moon. The perfect green meadow ahead. And the two of us together. Let's stay in that for now," She nods a little before laying down, using my lap as a pillow, and looking at the stars. I lean back, using my arms to steady myself. "Can we stay like this? Forever" Kate asked. "Forever," I agreed.
