August

Sunny afternoons of August. And there's that special day where the teacher is not around. Sometimes sick, sometimes attending a "conference". But whatever their reason might be, I enjoy those afternoons. Particularly, that sunny afternoon in August.  Everyone is walking around since it's the most free time we had in 3 months. Being a senior is definitely no joke. I was just sitting in the corner, reading, when a familiar scent tickled my nostrils. I looked up to your sweaty, smiling face. "You're all alone again." I smiled to you as affirmation and went back to my reading. I felt you sit next to me. And I wondered why you don't smell like the afternoon sun. You still smell like sunrise, fresh and titillating to the senses.  You sighed beside me, I looked up and catch you watching me. "What?" "Nothing," you said smiling. I should get annoyed. I know I should. If you were just a regular boy, you won't even get a single glance from me. But since you're special, I gave you an eyeroll. And in return you pinched my cheeks. I playfully, swatted your hand away.  "Come with me," you stood up and offered your hand. "Where? I'm reading." You ignored my response took my hand and led me out.  "Where are we going?" I said almost out of breath since I'm walking more that my normal pace in order to catch up with your long legs. "We'll just buy some food, I'm starving." You looked back at me, and maybe you saw that I look like a turtle trying to catch up to the hare so you stopped walking and waited for me.  We walked side by side. And during that moment, I want people to see us.  I want people to see that we're together, even though we're not. We passed by your old classroom, as well as your ex that was sitting under the tree, and I felt like a winner.  Those little moments, when we're together, are the moments that I hold dear in my heart. Because even though for you it meant nothing, for me it was everything. It made my heart sigh with happiness and contentment. And though I got old and found love, it was only whatever I felt for you that gave me such feeling -- pure, deeply rooted, makes-you-feel-like-flying, happy feeling.
