Four: Hacker

---???--- “Alpha. I think I found the perfect way to recruit human ‘volunteers’ for our project.” He laughed heartily at my joke. “Do tell. Remember that it needs to be something that has no way of getting back to us. Messing with human law enforcement sounds troublesome. The council probably won’t let me hear the end of it.” I nodded. I needed this terrifying man to like me. The last time someone disappointed the Alpha, they weren’t heard from again. I didn’t want that to happen to me. “The humans have been running a radio ad across the entire country on an XM station. They’re boasting a tropical vacation, free of charge. I thought we could find someone to hack the website and poach a couple of their entries. There’s no way it would trace back to us. I looked at the form to apply, and it asks for all kinds of personal information that should make it easy to choose who we want.” “And where will I get a hacker from?” He asked me testily. s**t, I should have added that already. “Sorry, sir. I should have said. I have found someone; she sent over one entry to prove her skills. Here.” I quickly passed over the paper I’d brought with me. He looked it over, muttering quietly to himself. The entry form included: name, where they were from, their age, amongst other things. My favorite part was where they added if they wanted a plus one.  “I see, I see. Is there a reason why this particular human was chosen?” He asked after he had finished reading the document. “Yes, Alpha.” I quickly replied. “I had the hacker separate those who didn’t request a plus one since those who didn’t want to share a vacation with anyone likely won’t be missed.” “Good thinking, you’re right.” He nodded at me proudly. “I see I have chosen you well. Let me meet with this hacker you’ve found; I would like to officially hire her.” “Yes, Alpha.” I left the room and sighed deeply. I survived to live another day, it seems. It’s alright though, I’ll happily endure anything to protect my family. They’re all I thought about as I continued to do detestable things for the evil man that led our pack. I knew that if our Alpha was ever found out and prosecuted, I’d likely go down with him. That was okay though, the Alpha paid well, and I know my family would be set for life. Besides, it’s not like I have many choices. What the Alpha wants, he gets. I dialed the number and held the phone to my ear. “Yes, he wants to hire you. Come on down to the pack grounds; we’ll take care of you while you help us. I promise that anything your heart desires will be yours. The Alpha is generous to those who help him.” “Good.” The voice on the other end said to me. “I’ll be able to start right away.”
