After Luther left, I carried that heavy teddy bear into my room and placed it next to my bed. I didn't sleep anymore and spent the next four or five hours staring at it--the brown thick furs, the red ribbon tied around its neck, and the round black eyes. And all those times my mind was blank and my heart beat quietly. The alarm clock sounded a loud ring, but I stayed lying on my bed and continued watching the stuffed toy. For about half-hour, it continued blaring before I forced my body to move and prepare to go to the University.
