After an hour of uncontrollable sobbing, I managed to got up from my bed and stormed into the bathroom still fuming. After the bath I got relieved a little, but still in a state of frustration.
As I made my way to the kitchen to carry out my chores, I was met with an unexpected surprise. My younger sister, Hazel, was washing the dishes - a task that was undoubtedly mine for the day. I eyed her suspiciously, knowing she was up to no good.
AVA: (gruffly) Hazel, what are you doing.?
HAZEL: (turning with force smiles) Oh, Ava... How are you feeling?
AVA: (cut in) Hazel, I should be asking you that, I thought you were sick? Or were you faking it?
HAZEL: (shuddering) Why would I do such?
AVA: So what are you doing, why helping me wash the dishes? you never lift a finger around here when it my turn to clean up the dishes.
HAZEL: I-i wanted to help, because I suppose you most be reeling from the trauma earlier with dad
AVA: what trauma?
HAZEl: Dad smashing your phone and-
AVA: (irritated) I'm fine. I can handle the dishes myself. You can leave now.
HAZEL: (slowly leaving but turn to face Ava) Well l'm so sorry about your phone. I knew that party was of no good.
AVA: (skeptical) Oh please, spare me the act, Hazel. You know you would've jumped at the chance to come with me to the party if only you got an invite!
HAZEL: (shrugging) And why would I!? I don't care about that stupid party or your crowd
AVA: Oh, you're too cool for the it now?
HAZEL: (hissed) That party? it's all just bunch of posers and wannabes. I wouldn't be caught dead there.
AVA: (anger arising) It's all clear to me now... You're the one who snitched to Dad about me going to the party, trying to ruin my life because yours is lacking, huh?
HAZEL: (Anger matching Ava's) You're one to talk about lacking! At least my life isn't a constant quest for validation, compliment and likes from everyone. And yeah, I told Dad because someone needs to keep you in check!
AVA: (furious) Ugh, you're the absolute worst! I can't believe how you became so manipulative and treacherous!
HAZEL: Ava you are the evil one here, so stop pretending. (groans) You're selfish and you piss me off by thinking you're so pretty, and so much perfect better than everyone else, but really you're just a dumb, self-absorbed, holier-than-thou snitch!
AVA: (smirking) it pains you, doesn't it?
HAZEL: (cut in, moving close to me) Get this right Ava.You are not special. it's just a matter of time before everyone to sees it, because I have long do.
As she was about leaving, my anger boiled over, and I could not take it. Immediately, something snapped inside me, without hesitation I grabbed a nearby frying pan and slammed it against her head, making her scream. But as she turned to face me, holding her head and nearly crying, I realized what I had done and dropped the pan in horror.
Hazel quickly snatch a spatula and began landing it on my arms, back, and shoulders. She grabbed my hair, and pulled it so hard that I felt my scalp was on fire. The beast in me emerged and I caught her neck with both hands, pushing her against the wall until she manage to screamed for dad. He appeared out of nowhere and pulled me off her. Hazel fell, breathing and coughing heavily with her eyes cold red. Before I could say a word, my dad gave me a hard slap across the face.
Tears streamed down my cheek as Dad's slap landed hard.
DAD: (yell) Have you lost your mind? I told you Hazel was sick, and you had the audacity to strangle her?
AVA: (tearfully) She's faking it, Dad!
DAD: Shut up! You're being incredibly selfish. The same Hazel you left unwell last night was helping you with the dishes, and this is how you repay her?
HAZEL: (voice chimed in, sorrowful and gentle) Dad, after the dispute between you two earlier, I felt sorry for her and decided to help her with the dishes.
AVA: (interrupted) Hazel, I didn't ask for your help!
HAZEL: (Eyes locked onto Dad's, her expression pitiable) Dad, she despises me. She vowed to ruin my life and bizarrely blames me for everything.
DAD: Ava, I'm shocked you'd say such hurtful things to your sister.
AVA: You're believing her? She's a professional liar, Dad! This was all planned. (I turned to Hazel, venom in my voice) Bravo, Hazel. You nailed the performance. (Turning back to Dad, with a cracked voice) Dad, please... hear me out. She's lying out of jealousy.
DAD: Can you just stop! You've disappointed me, Ava. Greatly.
AVA: (Desperately) Dad, please listen—
HAZEL: (cut in, her voice dripping with disgust) Come on, Dad, let's go. Ava only cares about herself.
As my dad grasps Hazel hand to leave, she suddenly turned and gave a sly, triumphant chuckle, her eyes gleaming with mischief, as she delighted in the success of her manipulative schemes.
They both walked out, leaving me in tears. I trudged to my room and collapsed onto the bed, burying my face in the pillow, and pull my hair with furiously and scream in anger. The sound was muffled by the pillow, but I couldn't contain the emotions boiling inside me. I scream again and again, my voice hoarse from the tears and devastation. I kicked my legs and pounded my fists on the bed, releasing all the pent-up rage and hurt.
DAD: Ava, the dishes aren't going to wash themselves! Get in there and get to work!
AVA: (sniffles) I'm coming...
DAD: (impatiently) Hurry up, Ava! you've got a lot to clean up!
