“Group!” Alex and Elizabeth exclaimed as he laughed
“It’s not a group it’s a cult” Alex said “a very discreet cult of 2”
“3 now” Luca smiled, he had the most beautiful smile and he knew
“We’ll see buddy” she laughed
“I’m sorry about the first day, the governor thing was a silly cartoon joke and it was so offensive, my bad”
“Nah it’s fine” she watched as Jelena stormed out of the cafeteria “is she okay?”
“I don’t know but I'll check” he got up “see you guys after school?” they nodded as he left
“That was weird” Alex stabbed his chips with his fork
“He’s sweet i’ll give him that”
“Well his girlfriend is pure evil, just be careful”
“Jelena seems a bit off but pure evil is harsh” she swiped some chips from his food tray
“When it comes to Luca she’s a monster”
“I can swear she doesn’t like him”
“Well what can I say, Lucas’ parents are on the Stanford board and Lena will do anything to get ahead”
“Woah f**k off”
“I’m only telling you because you’re basically as friendless as i am, so if i hear it anywhere i will gut you” Elizabeth mimicked herself zipping her mouth shut “Jelena is goal driven, she’s smart and cunning. She can’t possibly like or even be in love with Luca”
“Why? He’s cute right”
“They have absolutely nothing in common, he saw her and honestly no one is prettier than Jelena, so they dated and that was it”
“How do you know this anyway, thought you didn’t talk to anyone”
“I don’t” he smiled “I just know people”, she looked at him suspiciously because she knew he was hiding something but she wasn’t sure what so she didn’t push
“Of course you do” she laughed getting up, they went to their chemistry class and saw Luca at the back waving “okay now this is weird”
“He’s your bestie not mine” Alex said looking suspiciously at Luca. They walked toward him regardless.
“Saved you guys a seat” he smiled and pulled out the chair next to him, she smiled and sat down
“Now we’re lab buddies” Alex scoffed sitting down
“I need help in chem anyway and you’re a genius Lexi” he laughed and tapped Alex’s arm
“Ew Lexi” Alex whispered
“Pipe down” Mrs McCullen was their chem teacher, she tried to calm everyone down and waited of the class to be quiet before she spoke “as you all know the term is coming to an end, surprisingly we have a new student, so instead of having a final exam the administration has asked me to engage you guys in a group project and grade that as your finals”
“What?” Sloane snapped “we have to give up a term of hard work and round it up just because of her highness”
“Like that’s f****d up” another student spoke up. Elizabeth felt so embarrassed, she placed her head on the table, but Alex held her arm just in case she needed comfort
“If this was done or not your grades will still hang from a very thin thread so thank you Sloane for your very unnecessary comment” she rolled her eyes “moving on, your groups will be assigned to you on your online dashboard” she turned to face Sloane “is there anything else you would like to add?”, Sloane shook her head “now let’s focus on stoichiometry…”
“f**k” Elizabeth whispered “i knew this would happen”
“Sloane is a dumbass it’s fine” Alex held her hand “just hope she’s not in your group that’s all”
“Even if she is, she’s harmless” Luca was staring at his test tube “they never do anything unless Jelena gives them the f*****g permission”
“Thought as much” Alex scoffed “are you good?” he smiled at Elizabeth
she wanted to scream that the world could carry on as it should and she would be happy to face any consequence she had to, like any normal person but she knew that she wasn’t any normal person so she said the only thing she could say whenever she felt this way “it’s fine”, she noticed Luca shift his gaze from the test tubes to stare at her and it made her a bit uncomfortable because Jelena was in the room as well.
“I have an idea” Luca whispered “there’s a party at Ramseys’ tonight and i-”
“We’re not interested” Alex cut him off
“Yes, we are” Elizabeth jabbed his shoulder with her elbow, she hated parties or social gathering but she knew if Ramsey was going to be there that meant Alex could finally speak to him “what time”
“God no” Alex protested
“What time?”
“It’s around 8, i’ll pick you up” Luca smiled
“You don’t need to do that, just send me the address i’ll show up there”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah i am,” she smiled awkwardly.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Jelena watched as Alex entered the back seat of Lucas’ car
“Heyyyy” Luca was genuinely happy to see him
“Whats up” Alex tapped his shoulder and completely avoided his sister
“What’s happening?” Jelena eyed Luca as he started the car
“We’re going for Ramseys’ party” he laughed
“What’s wrong Jelena” Alex mocked her “wrong social group?”
“When did you guys become friends?” she was so puzzled “and when did we start hanging out with just anybody”
“Wow Jelena” Luca sighed “that was a stretch for even you, your brother is just anybody now”
“Yeah Jelena” Alex laughed “wow”
“The cafeteria was a one time thing” Jelena rested her head on her window pane “and i forgave you for that, meaning i’m not expecting it to repeat itself”
“She picks your friends too” Alex had to stop himself from laughing
“At least you get to witness it for yourself” he scoffed
“We have an image Luca, we don’t eat with anyone, sit with just anyone, go to f*****g parties with just anyone, we show up and we show out. Why can’t you comprehend that”. Luca stopped the car, this time Alex didn’t laugh or say anything, he kept still.
“Get out” he unlocked the doors, Jelena stared at him in disbelief “you heard me, down”
“Luca?” she had tears in her eyes, but she was too proud to cry for him or anyone really
“Have Sloane or Marc pick you up, just get down” he leaned over and opened the door for her “Alex move to the front please”. She quietly got down and Alex walked to the front seat and shut the door before he sped off.
They didn’t say anything for about five minutes before Luca broke the silence “i’m tired” Alex looked at him and waited for the next statement “i’m so tired of pretending to be something i’m not and trust me Alex i know you don’t like me, but the version of me you dislike isn’t even me, Jelena, Jodieee, Marc, Ramsey, Sloane even f*****g Forty,I'm f*****g tired of them of everything”
“I thought Forty was basically your brother”
“The last good memory i had with Forty was literally the day before he picked up his first bottle of alcohol” he sighed “they pick what i eat, what i wear, where i shop, who i talk to, what parties i go for, it’s f*****g exhausting”, Alex didn’t say anything, deep down he knew his sister never loved him, she always had a plan and it was sad that this particular plan she had been scheming revolved around Luca so he knew Luca had no way out anytime soon. He smiled and tapped his shoulder “well you have I and Lizzie now, we got you”

“Wow guys” Elizabeth watched Lucas’ car pull up in the driveway, they both smiled at her as Luca parked which made her a bit more frustrated “what the f**k guysI've been here for like three hours”, Alex got down from the passengers seat laughing “three hours?”
“For god's sake Elizabeth, if someone says a party is starting by 8 maybe don’t actually get here by 8” Luca laughed as he locked the doors
“I hid in the bathroom” she nagged “it smelt like alcohol and vomit”. Alex kissed her forehead “welcome to a whitmore high party”
“Gross”
They entered the house, the music was so loud and Elizabeth could see a couple of their classmates in the corner, there was no space to sit down or any free space to talk and she began to get anxious but Luca noticed
“SHOTS IN THE KITCHEN” Alex and Elizabeth heard Luca shout right next to them, they noticed everyone at the poolside clear to the kitchen so they made their way there
“Where did you learn how to do that?” Elizabeth smiled
“You go for so many it turns into a daily routine”
“You’re handy to have around you know” Alex sat by the edge of the pool “Alex?” he heard a voice and turned to see Ramsey
“Um- hey- hi” he was so flustered “what are you doing here?” Luca and Elizabeth tried to hide their laughter but it came out as giggling
“I live here” Ramsey squinted at him “you know, because it’s my party. Who invited you anyway?”
“I did” Luca sat beside Elizabeth
“Good” Ramsey smiled “so it’s not a complete taboo for me to speak to you”
“Was it before” Alex scoffed
“I mean you were a social disaster, but it was always a conundrum seeing as Jelena is your twin sister so-”
“She’s your what?” Elizabeth looked so uncomfortable
