21. Heaven

“I would have made a great queen.” Bessie stares at herself in the mirror, where the image of Queen Victoria of Great Britain poses in all her ceremonial splendor, complete with a diamond and emerald tiara on her head over her tightly coiffed hair. She shares the changing room of Bodysuits Boutique with Ash, who is struggling to pull on an image, tugging at the bottom bits. “There. How do I look?” Ash demands. The image of a petite, dark-haired, middle-aged woman in a fitted suit, dark red lipstick, with huge dark eyes emerges. “Very beautiful. But who are you?” Queen Victoria (Bessie) asks. “You look familiar.” “I’m Judy Garland in her later years, silly.” She bursts into her iconic song “Over the Rainbow.” “Shall we dance?” Queen Victoria politely requests in a proper British accent. Judy gives the Queen a deep curtsy speaking in that warbly voice of hers. “I would be honored, Your Majesty.” Together they pull aside the curtain. Back out in the boutique, the Soulslady, much to her intense dismay, is being swarmed by a pack of excited boys, evidently new clients to the store. The girls take full advantage of the situation. Queen Victoria in her cream satin dress embroidered with pearls, and skirts billowing out below her corseted top, extends her gloved hand to take the fingertips of Judy. Together they perform a spectacular jive all over the little shop. Continuing on, they dance their way right out the store into the main corridor, much to the delight of onlookers. Ten minutes go by, and then Judy spots Angel Rachel deep in conversation with Angel Jigjag, who is exiting a nearby bookstore. “Danger-danger!” she shouts, elbowing Queen Victoria. Hastily, they rush back into the boutique where the Soulslady yanks them towards the change room firmly by one ear each, hissing, “Game over, missies.”
