Chapter 6: The Sting Of Disruption

549 Words
Anterors stood by the punch bowl, his gaze fixed on Anna as she navigated the sea of well-wishers. He had never felt this… this disruption before. It was as if a rogue arrow had struck him, not his usual target – the unsuspecting human heart – but his own. He had expected to feel amusement, perhaps a touch of pity for the mortals, so easily distracted, so easily swayed. Instead, he felt a strange cocktail of emotions: frustration, annoyance, and a disconcerting flutter in his chest that he couldn't quite name. The woman, Anna, was undeniably captivating. Her eyes, the color of a stormy sea, held a depth that mirrored his own. There was a strength in her, a quiet resilience that intrigued him. And the way she moved, a graceful panther amidst the fluttering butterflies of the party, was mesmerizing. He had intended to observe, to remain detached, to study the human condition from a safe distance. But the sight of her, her laughter, the way her hair cascaded down her back in a silken waterfall, had thrown him off balance. He watched as she interacted with her friends, her smile warm and genuine. He listened to her laughter, a melody that seemed to resonate deep within his soul. And with each passing moment, his curiosity deepened, his initial amusement replaced by a growing fascination. He needed to understand. He discreetly summoned Eros, his closest friend, his thoughts forming a silent, telepathic message. Eros, I need your advice. A moment later, Eros materialized beside him, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Anterors, you look like you've seen a ghost." He chuckled, a forced sound. "Eros, I need to… discuss something." Eros raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over the room, landing on Anna. "Ah, I see. The human world is already having an effect on you." Anterors avoided his gaze, his gaze drawn back to Anna, who was now deep in conversation with her aunt. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice slightly defensive. Eros leaned closer, his eyes twinkling. "I mean, you seem… affected. By the humans." Anterors scoffed. "Affected? By those fickle creatures? Please." But even as he denied it, he knew Eros was right. He was affected. He was intrigued, bewildered, and strangely… unsettled. He had come to the human world to observe, to learn. But instead, he found himself inexplicably drawn to one particular human, his emotions a confusing tangle of curiosity, frustration, and a strange, unfamiliar longing. He had a feeling this human experiment was going to be far more challenging than he had anticipated. Eros, however, seemed equally distracted. His gaze had fallen upon Liam, who was regaling a group of teachers with an animated anecdote. A mischievous glint entered his eyes. "Speaking of affected," Eros murmured, "that friend of hers… the one with the infectious laughter? He seems quite… charming." Anterors felt a jolt of unexpected annoyance. "Charming? Hardly. He's… ordinary." Eros chuckled. "Ordinary? Jace, you've been spending too much time in this realm. You've forgotten the beauty of the ordinary." Anterors, feeling a strange pang of jealousy he couldn't quite explain, decided to change the subject. "Tell me," he said, his voice deceptively casual, "what is it about this…Anna… that fascinates you so?" I hope "Anterors" suits your preference Anna!
