I looked at the ceiling in the auditorium where the first event of the school was conducted. The lights kept on changing vigorously, and people are shouting excitedly along with the music being played.
I think I am the only person in this room who is not feeling the same as most people are feeling right now. I was never the type of person who would enjoy parties and events like this. I grew up in a calm and quiet place which is far from this.
Being in the city for almost two weeks introduced me to a lot of things. Different types of people I never met before and different places I never explored.
"Engineer, we didn't expect you to be here," I heard the dean greeting someone.
I decided not to be near the dean and try to talk to other people in this room and maybe look for friends if someone is willing to.
"Hey!" said the voice while I was reaching for a glass of wine.
I turned to her and saw a curly-haired girl wearing nude lipstick and a gold satin slip dress.
"Hello," I replied shyly. I never knew how to pick the right words to talk to anyone.
"I'm Jane, can you reach another glass of wine for me?" she asked, which I later obliged and gave her the glass of wine. She laughed before opening her mouth, "For a freshie, your taste is for the older people."
I laughed quietly at her comment, "I haven't tried any alcoholic drink aside from wine" I took a sip and picked a piece of salami in the charcuterie board. "And yeah, I love cold cuts and cheese with it. So maybe you're right, my taste is like an older person. I'm Joanna, by the way."
"But I like it because it's classic," she replied while reaching for a cracker and spread some cheese on it before eating it together with the glass of wine she's holding.
"I'm a senior here. I have a brother who's in his sophomore year, and I would like to introduce him to you."
She started dragging me across the room while looking for her brother that she's talking about.
"Hey, Luke!" she screamed at her brother while raising her arm, which is also dragging my hand.
I was shocked who turned to Jane. It was Lucas Sarmiento. The famous football player of this university. I knew about him because his face was everywhere. Posters, billboards, and even flyers came to my high school before considering studying in this city.
But because of my deep thinking, I then realized that Lucas was staring at me. Not in a way that is romantic or amazed by my presence. His left eyebrow lifted while his lips formed into a smirk.
"Are you gonna introduce me to a fan?" he proudly asked his sister, which made me feel embarrassed in front of a lot of people.
