Chapter 19

Amara "Do you have a vision problem, omega?" Magnus hissed under his breath. My eyes snapped to him while his eyes fixed on me, showing nothing but pure irritation. "Ohh, I'm so sorry, alpha, I didn't see you," I said, my voice soft yet rushed. I tried my best to look innocent, even though I was the culprit, at least right now. This was my ninja technique. He was quiet for a few moments, but his next move froze me in place. His strong hand grabbed my waist and pulled me into his arms before I could even register it. My hands found their way to his shoulders. I was shocked, like this was the most surprising thing that had ever happened to me. Well, it was, since my mate, who claimed to hate me, was holding me close. "Alpha, what are yo—you doing?" It was hard to speak with his breath fanning across my face, sparks erupting through my body, my stupid heart running a marathon. But without saying anything, he stared at me with his blue eyes, which kept changing color, meaning his wolf Mark was rising to the surface. "Amara." His voice came out husky, laced with softness. My body jolted hearing my name from his lips. Damn. He never called me by my name without starting "omega". "Leave me, Alpha, please... someone could see us." My pleading seemed to have no effect on him. Instead, he leaned down and buried his face in the crook of my neck. Ohh my goddess. Zia jumped around happily in my head, but my situation was only getting worse. "Please, alpha—" I started to say, but I was cut off when he planted a kiss right there. "Ahhn," I moaned, lost in his touch, but the next moment I jerked back. When I looked at Magnus' face, he looked furious, as if it was me who'd been doing the clingy thing. Without a word, he turned and walked out, leaving me standing here like a fool. Why did he leave? Zia whimpered and howled. I didn't understand him honestly, this man was full of mystery. My throat tightened, and the familiar pain gripped my soul again. I shook my head, shoved the emotions back down, locked them away, and made my way downstairs. When I reached the dining table, Magnus and Chloe were already seated. An omega was serving them food. Thank the goddess Chloe hadn't seen me with Magnus — if that had happened, she would've set me on fire. The omega saw me first and offered me a smile. I returned the gesture and stepped closer to the table. "Good evening, Alpha and madam Chloe." They both ignored me. Fuckers. "Umm... miss, can you show me the kitchen? I'm here as madam's personal maid." That was all I managed to say, just to stop myself from being more embarrassed. The omega's eyes flicked to Magnus, who was just having his dinner. Why did I even come to this place? Stupid me. The girl smiled nervously and said, "Miss Amara, Please sit down. You don't need to do any chores, we're here." Saying that, she set a plate in front of an empty chair. Magnus still refused to raise his head. Chloe's brows knitted together. I understood why it bothered her.Of course this b***h had a problem seeing me in any comfort and happiness. I was hungry, so with an innocent face, I sat beside my stepsister, wanting to rub it in her face. It worked. Her grip on her fork tightened, angry fire radiating off her. After a few moments burning in her jealousy, she finally said, "Mag baby, why is my maid having dinner with us? Shouldn't she be working?" "I don't like anyone else doing housework besides the people I hired. I don't trust anyone. You'd be better off using her for yourself," he said in one go, without sparing a glance at either of us. Chloe's jaw clenched in anger when Magnus refused her. I liked this — well, it made sense now why he did that and here my stupid heart and wolf were saying he did it for me. "Okay, I understand, Magnus, but can you tell me why she's living here in the main house? Shouldn't she stay in the omega quarters?" Again she interrupted. I was just about to take a bite. This time my cruel mate raised his head. "I hate it, Chloe, when someone asks me so many questions. I have many more important things to do than think about who belongs in which room." Both Chloe and I shivered at his cold voice, which he noticed, so he changed his tone to a softer one. "Chloe, you'll be the Luna of the Red Stone Pack. I thought if you needed anything, this omega could be kept closer to you." Hearing that, she smiled like a fool. But my heart cried. She was his future Luna, not that I wanted that title, but his mate. When we were done, Magnus went outside, and I quickly got ready to bolt to my room, but Chloe stopped me. Damn it. "Amara, tomorrow get up early in the morning and then wake me as well," she ordered. Ahh. Why couldn't she just set an alarm herself? Always pestering me. I came back to my room. That was how my life was. I wasn't living, just surviving. Every dream I'd had of getting my mate had shattered. Maybe I was never worth anything. "No, you're more than deserving," Zia said, wagging her tail. I smiled and sighed. At least my wolf was with me. Even if she’s a pick-me wolf, she was still there for me. "I'm telling you, Amara, our mate is hiding something. He wants us, don't you see there's zero chemistry between him and Chloe?" I rolled my eyes. "Seriously, Zia, are you saying me and Magnus have chemistry?" "He hates us. End of debate. But—" "Nope, Zia," I interrupted her. "Better not to have any hope." After setting the alarm, I tried to sleep, but of course it was difficult tonight, since I slept during the day like a baby. Goddess knows how much time had passed — maybe it was midnight. I even put a pillow over my face, a useless technique All of a sudden I heard a noise coming from outside my room.
