Chapter 17

Amara "What did you just say, omega?" Magnus's voice was loud, like he dared me to repeat the sentence I just said. But right now I was not backing off. Enough was enough. "I said, Alpha, we should reject each—" My eyes widened at the sudden movement, his harsh hand grabbed my neck and pinned me against the wall. "Seems like the omega grew some feathers, I think you forgot who you are talking to." His voice turned more deadly. Zia whimpered in my mind and shivered with fear. Well…me too, but I pushed myself and stood my ground against his attitude. "I know exactly who I am talking to. A nasty, arrogant, selfish alpha who does nothing but order people around like he owns the world. Like we are his servants." His eyes started changing color, his hand tightening around my neck. There was a clear warning behind his actions, but I was done with him. "Leave me, Alpha, you have a chosen mate now. Why are you holding back the rejection?" Finally, he removed his hand from my neck. "You want a rejection, omega? So you can run back to your old little lover?" His words hurt me, like always. "You can think whatever you want, Alpha. It doesn't matter to me. Just free me from this mate bond burden." He looked enraged, fire was burning in his eyes and his wolf was at the surface, like it wanted to come out. He folded his arms across his chest. "Don't order me, omega. You think I wanted this useless mate bond between us?" I kept my mouth shut. His words were always cruel. "You have to wait, omega, right now, if I rejected you it would weaken me, and it could be a hindrance to marking Chloe." I kept my face flat even though it was breaking me all over again, indeed I was weak. "When my work is done, I will reject you, until then, you better stay away from your lover. If I felt an infidelity mark on me, that would be your last day on this earth." Zia howled in pain. He always threatened to kill us. "No. I want it right now," I challenged him. "Showing attitude again, omega? Useless." He took a pause, and a malicious smile formed on his lips that scared me more than his anger ever did. "If you want the rejection so badly, then go ahead. But let me tell you one thing — if you initiate the rejection, your small and weak wolf will die. And being an alpha, it will mean absolutely nothing to me." I was shocked. He was right. If a weak-ranked wolf initiated a rejection, they died. Only high-ranked wolves had that kind of power. "So, omega — reject me. I don't have all night." His cold voice pulled me out of my thoughts. Why do I have to be mated to this cruel man? 'Please Amara, don't reject our mate' Zia whimpered again, still soft for him. I didn't want to lose my wolf. She was all I had, I whispered. "So that means I am the only one who holds the power to break this bond." He put his finger on his chin and made a fake thinking gesture. The malicious smile still hadn't left his face. "Why are you doing this, Alpha? What did I ever do to you?" His expression changed, something like guilt crossed his face. Wait, no. My eyes must have been deceiving me. He was the most heartless person I knew. So no, that wasn't guilt. Maybe irritation. "Well, omega… you did nothing. You can't do anything anyway. I am kind enough to agree to the rejection, but on my terms. If you have a problem with that, go ahead and reject me yourself." Did making me sad feed his evil soul? Probably, yes. "I am going now," he said, then casually ran his hand over my head like I was his pet. "Good night, pup." He walked to his room and this time I didn't cry like I usually did. A hatred was building inside me for him. One day I will get that rejection from you, Magnus. Just wait and watch, you will regret treating me this way. 'No. I am not going to let you do that' Zia refused, already against my future plan. 'Shut up, Zia. Stop being a pick-me wolf.' Thank Goddess she went quiet. The next morning I was setting the food on the table while everyone had their breakfast. My eyes stayed glued to the ground, but I could feel Magnus's gaze on me the whole time. I guessed my deceiving mode was on, why would he look at me? "Beta Kyle, I am returning to my pack today." Magnus's voice cut through the silence. He is leaving today. That was supposed to give me happiness. But it didn't. "I understand, Alpha Magnus. You have your pack to look after. But we are glad you stayed with us. We have already made up our mind that our princess Chloe is going to the place which meant for her." That stung me, Chloe was everyone's favorite. The golden child. "I enjoyed staying here and getting to know Chloe and her family better," Magnus said, his eyes going soft when they landed on her. Wait — he enjoyed it? He had acted like someone being held here against his will the entire time, why did he even stay here. This man was full of mysteries I had absolutely zero interest in exploring. A sob escaped Julie's lips. My eyes rolled on their own. "Oh, my daughter, it is so difficult letting you go to another pack—" "Mom, your daughter is safe. Please don't cry." Both are good actresses. Chloe was going to another pack, not her funeral. "Amara, pack my things," Chloe ordered, and I was already turning to go, but stopped dead when she added, "Pack yours too — since you are coming with me to the Red Stone Pack." I spun around fast. "Me?" "Yes," Chloe confirmed. "Why that reaction, Amara? I told you that day." "But Madam Julie doesn't want me, isn't that right, Madam?" I turned to Julie, desperate to make her agree. She just shrugged. "You are going with Chloe. You are her personal maid and without you she would be a complete mess." "But what would you do without me?" I tried my best to convince her. "Ohh please, Amara. I can hire another maid." Oh no. What was I supposed to do now? I don't want to go there. 'We get to go to our mate's pack!' Zia howled with happiness inside me, stupid her. "Amara, go now. Stop wasting time. We need to arrive before evening," Chloe snapped at me. "I don't want to go," I whispered, but she heard me. "Excuse me?" Chloe stepped in front of me. "Can you not take someone else—" Before I could finish, Magnus's cold voice froze my body. "You are coming with us, omega.”
