Magnus
Chloe was a selfish, narcissistic woman, and that was why I chose her over my mate.
I had watched how she treated Amara. It made me want to strangle her, but I couldn't. Still, she was the right choice for Luna.
When she came to my pack as a guest, one of my pack members tried to seduce me. Even after I threatened her brutally, she continued.
I could see the malice, the greed in her eyes. She was a selfish woman . It irritated me to the point where I nearly threw her out of my pack entirely.
Then I found out she was the beta Kyle’s daughter of this pack, and suddenly I saw an opportunity. It was my chance to find the red stone. My sources were certain it was somewhere in this pack — but after searching thoroughly, I found nothing. No trace. My sources were wrong, totally a waste of time.
The red stone isn't here.
It was useless to stay any longer. Tomorrow I would tell Chloe it was time to leave and return to my pack, then follow my plan. Two months from now, I would mark Chloe as my mate.
The mere thought disgusted me, but again I have to do that.
'Don't do this, Magnus.' Mark growled inside my head.
'We're done with this conversation, Mark. Amara is innocent. She doesn't deserve a mate like me.'
Mark whimpered, not ready to listen anything. I had been blessed with a powerful alpha wolf, but the moment we laid eyes on Amara, he turned into a lovesick puppy.
If anyone ever found out about her.. about what she meant to me — she would become easy prey for my enemies. People who wanted to take revenge on me, would use her without hesitation. I could bear living without her, but I couldn't bear a world where she no longer existed.
And the worst part? She was an omega. The weakest wolf type. Powerless, weak and fragile especially female omegas.
At least Chloe was a beta, a capable fighter. If someone came after her in the future, she could protect herself. I didn't care about Chloe, she could die for all it mattered to me. But Amara matters to me, she is my fated mate.
I suddenly remembered the day Amara fell into my lap. I had wanted to lock her in my arms and never let go.
She thought I mistook her for Chloe because I was drunk — but I knew exactly what I was doing. It was deliberate. I had been going crazy without touching her, even for a moment.
She ran afterward, telling me to stay away from her. My heart was restless for days. I always wanted to go to her but couldn't make myself stay away either. The moon goddess was playing a sick game with me.
She had also seen me the first time I jumped from the window searching for the red stone. What she didn't know was that on the nights she slept, I jumped into her room just to stare at her innocent face. Just to take her scent inside my system.
Her life was hard. Yet she always carried herself with quiet honesty, doing her work without complaint.
I stood from the chair, my heart felt heavy as stone. I wished I could announce to everyone that she was my mate.. but staying away was the right thing to do. It had to be, f**k.
The room felt like it was suffocating me. I needed air.
As I passed through the entrance door, I spotted Chloe with a man. They were heading toward the side house together.
What a b***h. Couldn't even wait.
The man looked familiar, but I ignored him. I have other important things.
What irritated me more was the risk — she could jeopardize my entire plan by behaving like this.
I pulled out my phone and called Uncle Steve. He picked up quickly.
"Hello, son. How are you? Are you alright?"
A warmth filled me with the concern in his voice. He was the most important person in my life.
"I'm fine, Uncle. The red stone isn't here."
He went quiet for a few seconds. "Are you sure, son?"
"Yes. No trace. I even searched Xavier's house and the entire pack grounds. Nothing."
"How is that possible? The stone should be there."
"I don't know. The sources pointed here, but they were wrong. There's nothing."
"So what do you plan to do now, Magnus?"
"There's no use staying in this useless pack any longer. I'm coming home tomorrow. I can't keep neglecting my duties."
"That's the right decision, son. I'll be waiting."
I said goodbye and ended the call.
Tomorrow I will return home. This small pack had nothing left to offer me. I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled slowly.
I still had to find the red stone, without it, everything was more complicated. My entire plan depended on it.
I sat down on a stone outside, lost in my thoughts. I didn't even notice how much time had passed.
When I finally went back inside the house, it hit me — her scent. Sweet and soft, the unmistakable scent of my omega.
Mark, who had been quietly sulking, suddenly snapped to attention, tail wagging like an excited pup.
'Take me to her, Magnus. Please. I just wanted to see her, wanted my lungs filled with her scent.'
Stupid wolf.
But I moved anyway, because a part of me also wanted to get a glimpse of her, my own desire.
I followed the soft sound of footsteps to the kitchen. She was reaching for a water bottle when she turned abruptly and walked straight into me.
My arms caught her without thinking like they had a mind of their own.
God, she was so soft, so small and fragile in a way that made something primal tighten in my chest.
Mark purred with satisfaction at having her this close.
Her eyes were red. She had been crying — a lot. s**t, I guess because of me.
"What are you doing out here, omega?"
She flinched at my tone. My voice came out harsher than I intended. I was always like this. A monster. I didn't deserve someone like her.
"I asked you something, omega."
"I came for water, Alpha," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Her heartbeats were so low, she's scared of me.
I wanted to smile.
"You should stay in your room at night. Someone could find you out here alone, you could be die."
She shivered. Pain flickered across her eyes.
'Magnus, I swear I will tear you apart. Stop hurting our mate.' Mark snarled.
I ignored him. It was better this way — better if she hated me. Even if it was tearing me apart from the inside.
I even threatened her before, told her that if she ever told anyone about the bond between us, I would make sure that would be her last day. Mark begged me to apologize.
"Understood" I barked.
she whispered. "Yes Alpha, I won't come out at night."
I turned to leave.
"Alpha—"
Her voice stopped me. I glanced back, my eyes narrowed.
"What?."
She took a breath, steadying herself. "Since you've already made it clear that you don't accept me as your mate.. and that you've chosen Chloe as your Luna—" She paused.
I keep staring at her..waiting. Where was she going with this conversation?
She lifted her trembling chin slightly, and something in her eyes shifted.
"It would be better if we rejected each other."
Mark howled in agony inside my head.
But what flooded through me wasn't grief, It was rage, pure rage.
"What did you just say, omega?”
