Amara
Chloe stared at me blankly, damn. I smiled nervously.
"What happened, Chloe?" I asked meekly.
She shrugged like it was nothing.
"Did you tell Mother that you're coming with me to the Red stone Pack?"
"I didn't." I said
She hissed. "God, you're useless, Amara. You know what, I wanted to move to Magnus Pack as soon as possible, and you are coming with me no matter what." After giving me her order she walked out.
I pulled my hair in frustration. I would not go there. Not when my mate hated me, his cruel words still echoing in my ears. I had to ignore this Alpha, no matter what.
The best thing was to reject him. He was not important to me anymore.
Everything in me felt heavy. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. Work was better. Work helped me forget the pain.
I made my way to the kitchen, but being the clumsy person I was, I collided with a wall.. umm well no it was a person.
The moment my favourite scent filled my nostrils, I knew exactly who it was. I didn't look at his face. I just ran straight to the kitchen.
Good job, Amara. Just ignore that jerk. I gave a pat on my back.
Zia didn't say anything, probably sad that I was putting distance between myself and Magnus.
She was my wolf, and as an animal the mate bond was everything to her, the only thing she understood. But I was human too, and I had to think with my brain, not my heart.
When everyone gathered around the dining table for lunch, I could feel Magnus's eyes burning a hole into the side of my head. I didn't look at him. Not even a single glance. Simply, my heart was still in pain.
"I need water," Magnus said. His voice was deep and low, and it sent electricity straight through my body against my will. I clenched my fist. This man.
Chloe shot me a signal to bring him the water. I wanted to scream at her. Couldn't she do it herself? I didn't want to go anywhere near him. But as always, I had no choice.
When I walked closer, his forest scent hit me like a wave and made my thoughts scatter completely. Ohh goddess, help me.
I set the glass down on the table, and at that exact moment, he reached for it. My hand touched his. Just barely. Oh not again.
Just for a second.
I shivered and gulped. I stepped back quickly and schooled my facial features. My eyes roamed over the table at everyone else, heart hammering.
Thank goddess. Nobody saw that.
I didn't know how the rest of the day passed. I just wanted to lay in my bed and never get up again, stop the time completely, let the world move on without me.
But I knew I couldn't do that. I had to think. I had to act.
I just want to go somewhere and I guess Tom was the only one who could help me.
I had saved some money over the months — not much, but something. Enough to start my new life. And I could find a job, earn something on my own.
Because one thing was certain now, I was not going with Chloe to Magnus Pack. Not happening.
By evening, Chloe had gone out with her friends for shopping, and Magnus was resting in his room. Chloe had mentioned before leaving that he wasn't feeling well.
What happened with him again, why I am worried about him, damn mate bond is the reason of course. I convinced myself this is the only reason I was worried about him.
Dad went to the petrol after having his dinner, and Julie also stood ready to go to her room.
I was just about to sit down on my chair, hungry as hell, but that exact time Julie fake-coughed. My eyes snapped toward her. A scowl was sitting comfortably on her face, like it lived there.
"What did I say, Amara?" she said.
"You don't eat until everyone has eaten."
I stared at her, confused and nodded.
"Alpha Magnus hasn't eaten." She tilted her chin toward the hallway. "You forgot. Go to his room and take him his dinner."
My eyes went wide. "What?" I almost yelled.
Her eyes narrowed instantly. "Did you just raise your voice at me?"
I laughed nervously, catching myself. "Oh — sorry, Julie, I'm sorry. It's just... Why me? Can't you go? I'm scared of the alpha"
"Me?" She looked at me like I had asked her to climb a mountain barefoot. "Listen, Amara. It is your job as the house maid. It wouldn't look right if I did it. Stop making excuses and go."
When I still didn't move, her voice dropped into something harder. "Now, Amara."
I prepared his plate with unsteady hands. Every step toward his room felt like walking in the wrong direction. My heart was beating faster than it should have been.
I stood outside his door for what felt like a full minute, just staring at the wood, asking myself if I could just quietly turn around and tell Julie he hadn't answered.
But she would never let it go.
I knocked hesitantly.
"Come in," he said. Sharp. Dangerous.
I pushed the door open. The room was almost completely dark, only a single lamp glowing in the corner, lighting the room.
He was sitting in the chair by the window, looking out, still and quiet like something carved from stone. The moment my scent reached him, he turned.
I lowered my gaze immediately.
"Alpha, your dinner," I said, barely above a whisper.
Silence.
It stretched long enough to irritate me, can't he say something.
"Put it there," he said finally, gesturing toward the small table beside his chair. Ohh no that table was set near him.
I walked over on unsteady feet and set the plate down carefully. His scent was blurring my every thinking, impossible to think straight.
I turned to leave. That was all I had to do. Turn and walk out.
But before I could take a single step, suddenly his strong arm wrapped around my waist.
I was not expecting that movement before I could understand or do something. The room tilted. My feet left the ground.
And then I was falling — landing directly on top of him. Oh no.
