Chapter 11
The room went completely silent.
Elena stood in the doorway, her hand steady around the gun.
The weapon was pointed directly at Adrian.
Amelia stared at her sister in disbelief.
"Elena..."
"Don't move."
Elena's eyes never left Adrian.
Adrian didn't flinch.
He simply stared back at her.
"Put the gun down."
"No."
"Elena."
"You lied to her."
Adrian's jaw tightened.
"I told her the truth."
"You told her only what you wanted her to know."
Amelia's heart pounded.
She looked at Adrian.
"Is that true?"
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
Elena laughed bitterly.
"See?"
She looked at Amelia.
"He's been lying to you since the beginning."
Amelia shook her head.
"Then tell me everything."
Elena lowered the gun slightly.
"I will."
Marcus stepped forward.
"You shouldn't be here."
Elena turned the gun toward him.
"And you shouldn't be alive."
Marcus smiled.
"Still angry after all these years?"
"You took everything from us."
"I didn't take anything."
"You destroyed our family."
Marcus's smile disappeared.
"Your family destroyed itself."
Adrian looked between them.
"Enough."
Everyone went silent.
Adrian's gaze remained on Elena.
"Why are you working with him?"
Elena's eyes hardened.
"I'm not."
"Then why are you here?"
"Because I know what he's planning."
Marcus laughed.
"You don't know anything."
"I know enough."
Elena looked at Amelia.
"The Black Rose isn't trying to kill you."
Amelia frowned.
"Then what do they want?"
"They want to control you."
"Why?"
"Because you have something they need."
Amelia shook her head.
"The trust?"
"No."
Elena looked at Adrian.
"Something much bigger."
Adrian's expression changed.
"You found it."
Elena nodded.
"I did."
"What?"
She looked at Amelia.
"The original birth records."
Amelia stared.
"What's special about them?"
Elena lowered the gun.
"They prove that we weren't separated because of an adoption."
"What?"
"We were deliberately separated."
Amelia's heart dropped.
"By who?"
Elena hesitated.
"Our grandmother."
Silence.
"Our grandmother separated us?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because she discovered something about our blood."
Amelia shook her head.
"This is insane."
"I know."
"Why would she do that?"
"Because one of us was being targeted."
"Who?"
Elena looked at her.
"You."
Amelia froze.
"Me?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
Elena took a breath.
"Because you're the heir."
Amelia frowned.
"To the Blackwood trust?"
"No."
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
"To something our grandmother created."
---
Marcus suddenly lunged toward Elena.
Adrian moved faster.
He grabbed Marcus and slammed him against the wall.
The gun fell from Elena's hand.
Amelia screamed.
"Stop!"
Marcus struggled.
Adrian's expression was terrifying.
"Where is the trust?"
Marcus laughed.
"You still don't understand."
Adrian tightened his grip.
"Where?"
"You think money is the reason?"
"No."
Marcus smiled.
"The trust isn't money."
Adrian froze.
Marcus whispered:
"It's a research archive."
Amelia stared.
"What kind of research?"
Marcus looked at her.
"Research that could change the world."
Elena picked up the gun.
"Don't listen to him."
Marcus laughed.
"Why?"
"Because you're a liar."
"Am I?"
Marcus looked at Amelia.
"Ask your grandmother's old records."
Adrian released him.
Marcus immediately stepped backward.
"Your grandmother discovered a genetic formula."
Amelia's face went pale.
"What formula?"
"One capable of predicting certain inherited diseases."
Elena shook her head.
"That's not all."
Marcus smiled.
"No."
He looked at Amelia.
"That's why your family was hunted."
Amelia's voice trembled.
"And what do you want from me?"
Marcus answered quietly.
"Your DNA."
The room went silent.
Amelia stepped backward.
"No."
Marcus nodded.
"Your blood contains the genetic marker your grandmother spent decades studying."
Adrian moved toward Amelia.
Marcus continued.
"Without you, the research is useless."
Adrian's expression became cold.
"You won't touch her."
Marcus smiled.
"You already gave them access."
Adrian froze.
"What?"
Marcus looked at Amelia.
"Through the marriage."
Amelia's heart stopped.
Adrian's eyes darkened.
"What are you talking about?"
"The marriage contract contains a clause."
"What clause?"
Marcus laughed.
"Read it."
Adrian immediately turned toward Amelia.
"Give me the contract."
She hesitated.
Then she pulled it from her bag.
Adrian read it.
His expression changed.
"What is it?"
He didn't answer.
Amelia stepped closer.
"Adrian."
He looked at her.
"There's a medical authorization clause."
Her eyes widened.
"What?"
"Your signature allows Blackwood medical facilities to conduct genetic testing."
Amelia stared at him.
"Why?"
"I didn't put that clause there."
Marcus smiled.
"But your father did."
Amelia turned toward him.
"My father?"
"Yes."
She shook her head.
"No."
Marcus continued.
"Your father knew what you were carrying."
"Stop calling me a thing!"
Marcus's expression hardened.
"Then start understanding why everyone has been chasing you."
Elena stepped beside Amelia.
"He's trying to scare you."
Marcus laughed.
"I'm telling her the truth."
---
Adrian walked toward Marcus.
"Who else knows?"
Marcus smiled.
"Everyone."
"Who?"
"The Black Rose."
"Names."
"You think I'd tell you?"
Adrian grabbed him by the collar.
Marcus laughed.
"Kill me if you want."
Adrian's eyes were deadly.
"I don't need to kill you."
He looked at his security team.
"Take him."
Two guards seized Marcus.
He struggled.
"This isn't over!"
Adrian ignored him.
Marcus was dragged away.
Then Adrian turned toward Amelia.
She immediately stepped backward.
"Don't."
He stopped.
"I know you're angry."
"You lied to me."
"I know."
"You knew about my family."
"Yes."
"You knew about the trust."
"Yes."
"You knew about the contract."
"Yes."
"And you still married me."
His expression softened.
"Yes."
"Why?"
Adrian stared at her.
"Because I couldn't let them get to you first."
Amelia's eyes filled with tears.
"You could have told me."
"I was afraid you'd run."
"You had no right to make that decision for me."
"I know."
She looked away.
"You keep saying that."
"Because I know I was wrong."
Amelia's tears fell.
"Did you ever love Victoria?"
Adrian paused.
"Yes."
Her heart broke slightly.
"But not anymore."
"When did that change?"
"The night I realized she had been hiding things from me."
"And me?"
He stepped closer.
"You're different."
"How?"
"Because I didn't plan to fall in love with you."
She looked at him.
"And now?"
His voice became quiet.
"Now I don't know how to stop."
Amelia stared at him.
Her emotions were a mess.
She wanted to hate him.
She wanted to leave.
But part of her still wanted to believe him.
Then Elena suddenly grabbed her arm.
"Amelia."
"What?"
"We need to go."
"Why?"
Elena looked toward the door.
"Because Marcus wasn't the person who kidnapped Mum."
Amelia froze.
"What?"
"He's working for someone else."
"Who?"
Elena's eyes filled with fear.
"Someone inside Blackwood."
Adrian immediately turned.
"Who?"
Elena shook her head.
"I don't know."
"Then how do you know they're inside?"
"Because I saw them."
"Who?"
Elena whispered:
"Your uncle."
Adrian's face went cold.
"My uncle is dead."
Elena shook her head.
"No."
She looked at him.
"He's alive."
Silence.
Adrian's phone suddenly rang.
He answered.
A man's voice came through.
"Hello, nephew."
Adrian froze.
The voice laughed.
"You've been looking for me."
Adrian's eyes became ice-cold.
"Where are you?"
"Closer than you think."
"Show yourself."
"Not yet."
"What do you want?"
The man laughed softly.
"What I have always wanted."
Adrian's grip tightened around the phone.
"The Blackwood empire."
The call ended.
Adrian stood motionless.
Amelia looked at him.
"Was that your uncle?"
He nodded.
"Yes."
"Where is he?"
Adrian stared at the phone.
Then the lights suddenly went out again.
A message appeared on every security monitor in the room.
THE BLACK ROSE HAS RETURNED.
Then another message appeared.
AND THIS TIME, WE ARE COMING FOR ALL OF YOU.
The screen went dark.
Adrian immediately reached for Amelia's hand.
She looked at him.
He didn't let go.
Because somewhere in the darkness, someone had just declared war on the Blackwood family.
And Amelia had become the most valuable target in the entire war.
