17 Preparations ‘Reheated chips all right for breakfast?’ Lucy called into the curtained area that was her parents’ bedroom. The only response was a change in the timbre of Alan’s snoring. ‘I’ll take that as a “yes” then.’ She made them both a cup of coffee and left the bag of chips next to the microwave, with a cheeky post-it note beside the start button with “press me” written on it. Then, leaving them to sleep, she headed up to the village with a newfound sense of enthusiasm.
