Jaxon looked at Aelina before he looked at Jacob. He had suspected something was happening between them for a while—or Aelina just had feelings for Jacob. Because Jacob didn't seem to be aware Aelina wanted to stay because of him.
But he couldn't let her stay. She could take care of herself. He knew that. But he was too paranoid to allow her to stay. Because if his enemy found out how much she meant to him, they would find ways to get to her.
But in England, she would be safe. No one would even suspect she was connected to him.
He sighed as he turned to Aelina. He hated to do this, but he had to.
“I’m sorry, Aelina, but you–”
She stormed out of the kitchen without a word, tears falling from her eyes. Jaxon watched her go, his heart heavy.
