chapter 1

I was looking in the mirror and I couldn't decide what to wear. I've had a black with blue iridescence pencil skirt on, which was one of my favourites, and I could not decide which blouse to put on. I've had two choices, a simple plain white blouse or a red one, but I wasn't satisfied with either of them. I put them back on the bed, and I head towards the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea, when the doorbell rings. I peeked at the wall clock and saw that is nearly 8 p.m. ,,That is strange, Who can be at this hour?"... I said in my mind, with a frown plastered on my face. ,,Come on sweetie, open the door. It's your mom." "Mom? What a surprise!... I wasn't expecting you until Saturday." I unlocked the door, and jumped to brace my mother. I haven't seen her in two months and I was missing her, although I usually talk with her daily on messenger, but is not the same as in person. ,,Slow down my dear, slow down... you will knock me down, if you keep doing this every time I come to see you.." my mother said, chuckling. ,,Oh mom, I've missed you so much"... I said, my face radiating so much happiness. ,,Aren't you going to let me in?"...Mom said, pushing me slowly on the side... ,,or are you hiding somebody else in there?"... she looked towards the room, with a smile on her face. ,,Oh mom, stop that!. You know I will never hide somebody from you"... I said, blushing. ,,I know sweetie, I know. I was just teasing you. I just thought it would be nice of me to surprise you. I bought you a gift for your first day of work. Are you thrilled?" "Oh..thank you mom, that is so sweet of you"... I said, leaning towards her and kissing her on the cheeks. She came into the living room and sat on the sofa, while I headed towards the kitchen, to make myself a cup of tea and a cup of coffee for her. My mom was a simple person, with a simple life. She worked hard all her life, just so I and my brother have everything that other kids have had. She used to work double shifts or even have an extra job, so we can go on holidays. She always went the extra mile for us. We were her life and her light in life. That until my brother has had a car accident and passed away. That is when her world shattered and she lost her faith in life. I had to start working even if I was still in high school, to support both of us, as my mother lost her jobs. She was so depressed that she wanted to take her own life. She recovered eventually, but left me to take care of the flat and myself. Now, after nearly 2 years from that painful accident, she is still sad, but at least she thinks that it was God's will to take my brother away at that age. I've had to be strong for both of us, even if my world was shattered by that painful accident, and only God knows how many nights I couldn't sleep and cried my eyes out thinking about my poor brother, and how unlucky he has been, and how faith decided to take him away only at fifteen. Now it was only me and my mother, as my father passed away when I was only four. Thinking about all the sad memories, I glanced towards my mom, and thought I shouldn't show how sad I am, still. With a fake smile. I headed toward the sofa and sat near her. ,,Here mom, have your coffee. I've put two sugars in. Exactly how you like it"... I smiled at her. ,,Thank you sweetheart"... said my mom, with a shy look. I opened the box, and I was amazed to see a skylight blue blouse with pearly buttons, and silky touch like feeling. " Ohh mom"...I said, with a genuine smile on my face..." I love this blouse, it's like you have read my mind"...my eyes sparkling with joy. "Ok sweetie, now I have to go. My bus is leaving in half an hour, and I need to be there in time. Sorry I can't stay longer. I just missed you so much and I wanted to gift you something, for your first day at work."
