Chapter 13

Sam and I exchange looks and head in the house! I head upstairs with the blanket because Sam keeps them busy and I tuck it away in a safe place and come back down. I wink at Sam and head in the kitchen to help. What can I do for grace? She motions towards the stove and I mix the chilli! Yummy this smells good! Why thank you! Your welcome grace, anything I can help with? Nah everythings done ,but thank you! Ok then! I head back to the porch! I walked up behind Levi and put my hands over his eyes. I whisper softly in his ear come with me! Without a word he follows him down to the lake. We go to our shady spot and set. I grab Levi's hand and softly kiss it. We look over the lake. It's so pretty, just like a fairy tale! We just sat there for a while enjoying the silence. I look up at Levi. He's got a content look on his face. He notices me staring and him. I see a fire in his eyes, and gentleness is something I've missed. I smile and softly kiss him. I look back over the lake. Kate? hmm? I love you. I love you too. We walk back hand in hand to the house! Everyone's gathered at the table and we find a place. Hi Rev Mark so good to see you! He is short, stocky with a full head of gray hair! Wear glasses and have the sweetest voice you ever heard. He's been a preacher for about 45 years. He has a way about him that you don't see anymore. He married almost everyone in the family! Kate, Levi I heard you wanna renew your vowels? Yes sir. That's wonderful! Do you have any preferences or would you like to read anything? I'd love to look at a few scriptures and I'll make sure to send them to you! We would like to write something as well. That's wonderful, make sure to get them to me by tomorrow! Yes sir! I look up at Levi and squeeze his hand and smile. We finish eating and cleaning up. Dawn and Ben start the fire and we all sit around drinking beer listening to music. Dad and grace are sitting there laughing, they look so peaceful! I take a drink of beer deep in thought. I'm so Thankful for everything! I'm glad we came and are making a new commitment to each other. I try to blink back tears threatening to come out. Kate? Levi brings me back out of my thoughts. Yes honey? Just making sure you looked like you were lost in space for a minute! You can say that! I was just thinking. About what honey? Everything! He knows when I answer that way I'm not willing to talk about it. He wraps his arms around and pulls me in. Levi we need to pick out some verses and write out vowels down. Yes we do! I get up and head upstairs. I grab my bible,pen and paper! Where do we start honey? I'm not sure. Me either! We finally decided on it. Now that we have that we have to write our vowels. Ok! Where are you going? I'm going to the attic so I can write mine! Ok I'm going to the lake! I kiss him and head out! I walk down to the lake admiring the moonlight glow! Hi sweetie! Lea comes up and licks my face! Where have you been? She wiggles! I know you've been having fun haven't you! ROOF! ROOF! She lays down at my feet! I grab my paper and begin to write! I get lost in my writing when I hear something stir! ROOF! ROOF! GRRRR... Who is it? I get up and nearly run into Regi. I back up looking at him with aw. What the hell are you doing here? I told you I didnt ever want to see you again. We went on one date you stocker. Kate chill. I got worried because you didn't answer my call. Regie we went on one date and I told you I never wanted to see you again. You need to leave. I don't think so. I think I'm going to stay, maybe tell your husband about your date! Regi he knows. He looks at me shocked because I keep telling them not tell levi because I knew he'd be pissed. Nothing happened between you and I. How the hell did you find me anyway? Jean told me where you were. OMG I'm going to kill her. You need to leave. Not without a kiss. He pulled me forward and tried kissing me. He pulls my face towards him. I'm no match . I keep my mouth sealed as he tries kissing me. I try lifting my knee to his groin but he has it blocked. I try stomping his foot ,but he has steel toes on. He breaks loose. Kate don't fight me. Regie get the f**k off of me. He throws me down. I hear Lea growl ,but then everything goes black. Kate? I hear Levi's voice guys I found her. Kate wake up? Honey wake up? I barely open my eyes and touch his face when I black out again. I feel Levi stand up. I hear the others coming ,but can barely understand .What they are saying? I lay my head against Levi's shoulder. I woke up in the hospital. I look over to see Levi setting there his slumped over praying. I reach for his hand.. He looks up at me. OMG your awake. I look at Levi and see the worry and concern clear from his face. He looks like he hasn't slept for days. I reach and touch Levi's face. Tears start streaming and he begins to sob.. I pull his head to my chest and wrap my arms around him. Levi I'm alright. I breathe in deeply remembering what happened. I wince ,but I know I'm ok. I kiss the top of Levi's head. He looks up at me. I wipe the tears away and smile at him. He looks at me confused. Levi I'm ok I promise other then a minor headache and some bruising and cuts I'm ok. How are you? I cut him off. Levi look at me! I'm ok! I'll tell you more later right now please get me some water. He looks at me reassuring I'm ok and awake. He comes back with water and the doctor. Hi kate I'm Dr.Brew how are you feeling? Well I feel like I've gone around in the ring! You look it. Who won? Well by the looks of things I think the other guy! The Dr. Brew starts laughing! Well I see your sense of humor is in tack! Where are you and what day is it? Well I'm at the hospital and I think it's Friday the 16th? You are correct! He shines the flash light in my eyes and takes my vitals. Everything looks good. I'd say you can be discharged today! Now Kate you have some minor scratches other then that everything is fine. You have a slight concussion ,but you'll be alright. I'd prefer you to come back in about a week for a follow up. It was nice meeting you. He walks out of the room! I look back up at Levi. OH no honey we missed our thing and and ... I'm so sorry honey it wasn't your fault. We've missed so much. Honey it's only been a couple of days. Where is everyone? Well they are home waiting on us! What? Well everyone took off a few extra days and Dad and Grace are insisting we do the wedding now after everything. I start laughing. Then I have a flash back as to what happened. I hear Levi talking ,but I don't understand what he's saying. I blink and realize what happened to me. I look up at Levi. Kate what is it? Well umm.. about what happened. Are you sure you're ready to talk about? Yes I am. Levi, I'm ok this wasn't anyone's fault. Except Jean's I'm gonna kill her when we get back. Why are you going to.. He breaks off mid sentence and instantly gets pissed I put my hand on his shoulder and set him back down. Calm down Levi. He looks at me still angry ,but knows I need to speak. I take a deep breath and begin. Levi, I was down at the lake writing my vowels when Lea started growling. Lea is she ok? Yes she's fine why? I try swallowing the frog in my throat. Levi waits for me to speak. We were down at the lake and I was writing my vows all the sudden Lea starts growling. I stand up asking who's there. When Regie comes out from behind the tree. Levi looks like he's about to kill someone. I keep contact with his eyes and keep going.I need to tell him.He tried kissing me and I couldn't move. I hear Lea barking. Then he throws me on the ground and everything went black I don't remember anything after that. I think Lea was protecting me and that's how I got the scratches. She must have scared him off. Levi looks angry, hurt, confused and worried. I see every expression on his face. He looks back at me. Levi I'm alright I promise. He cuts me off, I'm going to kill him. I look dead at Levi and pull him close. Though his angry he loosens up a little and embrasses me. Levi let's go home. He calls everyone why we wait for me to be discharged. He hasn't told anyone what happened. I think he's trying to keep calm for me. I dress myself and gather the view items everyone brought me.. You're ready! Yes! We hold hands and head to the car. The drive home is nice, still a little tense ,but a lot calmer for now. We pull in everyones on the porch Lea comes running up to me. I squat down. Thank you girl I love you. I pet her and she stays with me until we reach the porch. I walk up on the porch wincing still hurting a little bit Levi tries helping me but I move his hand I wanna do it on my own. I reach the top and Grace has me in a big bear hug. We were all so worried. I'm ok! I promise. Levi walks past us and heads upstairs. I think I'm going to shower and I'll be right back down. I Wince at each step ,but manage. Levi meets me halfway and helps me the rest of the way up. He runs me a bath and helps me in the tub. We cover my bandages with plastic. He helps me wash. I smile warmly at him. This feels wonderful. mmm... He slides in the tub behind me and holds me tight. I hear a soft sob.I turn around and bring Levi in close. I kiss the top of his head and wait. He finally starts to calm down. Barely a whisper he says I'm sorry. I place one of my hands on each side of his face and look into his eyes. Lev it wasn't your fault and don't you dare think otherwise. I pull his face closer to mine and I kiss him senseless. Until we were both laughing and finally at ease. Come on honey let's get out of the tub and visit everyone. I get out of the tub and watch him get out. I admire his lean muscular body the way he moves with ease. The strength I see not only on the outside ,but on the inside. Just watching him I realize how in love I truly am. How blessed I am to have such a wonderful husband. He looks up at me catching me watching him. What are you doing ? I love you. I love you to. That still doesn't answer my question. I'm admiring my wonderful husband! I am quite good looking! You are so full of yourself! I walk out into the bedroom and take off the plastic covers. I slide on a yellow spaghetti strap sundress. Levi puts on some blue jean shorts and a shirt. We head down stairs everyones enjoying the day. Hey, how you feeling? I'm fine still a little sore. Lea comes up sniffing me Hi sweet girl you are such a good girl. I love you sweetie. She licks my hand and goes over and sets by dad. You know dad I think we may just have to leave her here this time! Oh non since. I can see the look of wishfulness in his eyes. Levi and I exchange a look! Dad why don't you and Grace keep Lea? I'm sure she'd love to stay! Plus it's really good for her to have room to run. Tears form in his eyes he gets up and gives me a hug afraid to break me! Are you sure? Yes dad we are sure! She loves it here and it's good for guys! He lets go and heads back to the rocking chair. I set on the porch. It feels nice to just set down! Where is everyone? Well I think they went to town. Said they wanted to do some shopping and let you get some rest. Which you should head back up and take a nap! Dad I'm ok! He gives me a stern look! If I get to tired I will go lay down promise! Ok! Kate? Yes levi? Come with me. Where are we going? It's a surprise, Dad you want to come with us? Yea son let me leave a note for Grace! After dad leaves the note we go get in the truck. Levi where are we going? He smirks, It's a surprise oh and you have to wear a blind fold. Why do I have to wear a blind fold? Just let me put it on you kate. It's part of the surprise. Fine! He puts the blind fold on. I hear Lea jump in and Dad start's driving. We hit a few bumps along the way. How long until we get there levi? Be patient Kate! I stick my tongue out at him. He laughs at my antics and grabs my hand. Were almost there don't worry! The truck comes the a stop. I try to take the blind fold off not yet kate! Really levi? Yes really! He helps me out the of the truck. I hear the door shut. I feel him grab my hand. Come on follow me! Well do I even have a choice? No not really! Smart ass! We walk few steps forward and he tells me step up. I step up to what feels like a porch? Levi where are you? Just a min Kate! Dad comes over beside me and holds my hand. Dad you going to tell me what it is? No ,but your going to love it! Dad come on. I hear something open. Come on Kate, dad helps me walk forward one more step! That's good ok! You ready? Yes! I've been ready! I feel Levi bring his hands to my head and unties the blind fold. My mouth drops open! OMG! This is beautiful Levi! Wait where are we and whose house is this? Levi places his arm around my lower back and and places his hand on my hip. He smiles and say's Kate this is our new home! Our what? I look at him in AW? Our new home? What? Wait a min.. this is what you've been up to for the last 2 years? You've been building our dream home without me? He winces at my words ,but brings back his smile. Kate, please let me explain? Ok you know what no fighting right now I wanna look at everything. The front entrance is huge. High ceilings, deer horn chandelier that brightens the whole room. A spiral staircase made of cherry with a dark finish! I look over to my left and see a beautiful rustic living room. The lighting is perfect. Lights on all four corners of the room. The walls are a warm brown with a white trim. The fireplace is made with river rock. Beside it is a small stand holding the fire wood. Next to that is a double window with white curtains. The other on the same side. Brown carpet through the living room. I look to the right and see the kitchen. I walk in to see an amazing island with a stove top built in. Dark brown cabinets with wooden handles. Granite countertops all around the kitchen with a microwave, toaster, wooden spoons, and a knife holder. A porcelain covered cast iron double sink. A beautiful island right in the center with a four burner stove top and hangers to hang above the island. Two ovens! A chroma refrigerator, wooden floors! Then I walk forward and enter the dining room. There's a full length table seating 12. It has brown walls with white trim very plan and simple. Baby you have out done yourself it is beautiful let's look upstairs. He chuckles as I run upstairs Lea following me.
