I hope so too. Soon I fall back asleep. I wake up to a nurse checking my vitals. I'm sorry I woke you honey. She's an older lady early 50's.Gray hair glasses and plump. Reminding me of one of those grandmas that bakes you cookies. Can I get you anything? Some water please. She hands me a plastic cup with a straw. Thank you. I gulp down the cool water soothing my dry throat. I'm Gayle, your nurse. Nice to meet you. Have you heard from the doctor? He should be in later today. He had an emergency surgery in the middle of the night. Oh.. Umm.. Gayle can I please have some chicken noodle soup and crackers. Yes you can honey. Can I get you anything else? A turkey sandwich and some coffee. She winks knowing it's for Levi. Who seems to be hanging onto me for dear life. I rub his back as I lay there trying to figure out what happened. There's a light knock as a guy comes in carrying a tray. He sets the try down. Thank you. Your welcome. He walks out leaving me to my thoughts. I gently shake Levi. Honey, wake up. He just holds me closer. I giggle at him. Honey, I have coffee for you. He opens his eyes looking up at me. Good morning. Morning, how are you feeling? I'm ok. How are you doing? Worried, but glad you're awake. Me to honey now let's eat why we wait for the doctor. After some time there's a knock at the door. Hello I'm Dr. Story. He looks to be mid 30's tall, dark, handsome, but has an easiness about him. His gray eyes look tired and concerned. His dark hair is covered by a bandanna. It's nice to see your awake Mrs. Light. Call me Kate I say as I shake his hand. Alright Kate it is. Levi pulls me in possivally. That's weird, he's never done that before. Is he jealous? I look over at Levi and peck his cheek. He smiles and looks back at Dr. Story. Kate after running some taste we found that you have a brain tumor the size of a lemon. Unfortunately we are unable to get it without killing you instantly. We could try chemo ,but that could only delay. If I decide against chemo? We can prescribe you some medicines to help with the pain. How long do I have? It's hard to say it could be six months or up to a year. If I did chemo? It could buy you a few months. What am I to expect? You'll start feeling dizzy, tired, loss of appetite, muscle mass, maybe hair. Levi's holding me so tight, but hasn't said a word. Thank you Dr. I'd like to go home now. I already have the discharge papers ready, you can leave now Mrs. Light. Anything you need let me know. Thank you doctor. He leaves as I look at Levi. Tears stream down his face. I hold onto him for dear life. God please I just got him back. I say my silent prayer and look back at Levi. Honey let's go home please. He just nods and we collect our things. We grab a cab and ride home. No words are spoken. We arrive at the home paying the cab driver. Levi grabs our overnight bag as I walk to the door. Lea sniffs me and I Pat her head. I look up and see Dad and Grace standing there with worry in their eyes. I sigh and head upstairs to wash off the hospital smell. I throw on some coffee clothes and head down stairs. I walk into the living room and everyone's silent. I sat beside Levi grabbing his hand intertwining our fingers. Well there's no way to put this nicely or sugar coat it. The doctor found a brain tumor that is aggressive. Surgery isn't an option, it would kill me. Chemo would only buy me a few months. He offered to prescribe medicines to help with the pain. When I'm finished everyone's in tears. How I'm not I don't know. Maybe because I'm not ready to accept it. I'm not processing it all the way. What about a second opinion, ask Grace? I'll consider it right now I'm tired and just wanna sleep. Ok sweetie well be here if you need anything. Thank you Grace. I grab Levi's hand to follow me. We reach our bedroom and lay on the bed facing each other. I place my hand on his cheek closing my eyes as the tears slip out. He pulls me in barring his face in the crack of my neck. Baby I love you so much. Thank you for being you always. I love you too. I peck his lips thinking about what the doc said. Levi? Yes baby? Let's just pack up and get a realtor to sell the apartment and house. I don't want the hassle of all that. Ok, but I have to finish the Stevens case then I'll hand to rest to . ....
