Chapter 2

After Mum eventually left Jaxon and Jennifer alone, fussing over them and just generally being a crying mess, I went into my room and started unpacking my suitcase. I could hear Jenny and Jaxon talking and laughing in her room next door. Part of me was a little sad they were mates, it felt as though our journey had been cut short before it was even beginning. But from Mum and Dad I knew how sacred the bond could be too. I decided there and then to push aside any negative feelings about them being mates and just focus on the plus that Jenny would be part of my family forever. I didn’t have much clothes to unpack now, I liked things simple. My wardrobe consisted of a lot of jeans, leggings, joggers, T-shirts and hoodies, there wasn’t much in the way of ‘going out’ clothes. I did however have a serious shoe collection, all sorts of shoes too trainers, heels, boots, sandals you name it I had them. Looking through what I had already hung up I got out a pair of denim short shorts, a white strappy top that showed off a little of my toned stomach and a white hoody for when it got cold. Grabbing a pair of my white Nike Air Force 1’s with a black tick on I tried to force myself to look forward to the annual pack full moon bonfire. “Come on Ali you can do better than that.” Jenny said from my doorway. I turned to look at her, “What do you mean?” I questioned. “Shorts, T-shirt and a Hoody? You’ve definitely got something better than that in there.” She walked around my bed and came into my wardrobe. Shifting through the clothes I had just hung up she pulled out a deep red midi dress, “This is much better!” She smiled at me. I crinkled my nose at her, dresses weren’t really my style I’d bought this one for Jaxon’s 18th Birthday meal and it was one of my only dresses. “You know dresses aren’t really me.” I say “Tonight it is, were celebrating so we are going looking a million dollars sweetie.” Her eyes shone with excitement. “Where’s Jaxon?” I asked “He’s gone home to get ready. Said Nate wanted him up at the pack house before the bonfire so he had to be ready early.” She looked at me quizzically, “Is everything ok?” She asked. “He’s going to be here more than when I lived at home isn’t he?” I laughed “Is it too weird for you?” Jenny asked sadly, I frowned. “No, no it’s not that it’s weird! Well it is a little weird I mean its Jaxon, he’s my older annoying brother!” I rambled, and I sigh as Jenny’s face gets a little sadder “I just was so excited for us start this adventure together and it feels like now it’s going to be you me and now Jaxon too. But I’m cool with it honestly, I know how special it is to find your mate and I’m really really happy that you’ll not just be my best friend now but my sister in law too!” A high pitched squeal leaves Jenny’s mouth, “Oh my god sister in laws how amazing is that!”. The excitement wrote all over her face and it makes me feel all happy for her, regardless of it being because of Jaxon. We spent the next couple of hours getting ready together chatting and laughing and it made me realise that no matter what this was my best friend sat in front of me right now and no boy, not even my brother was going to change that. I had pretty good skin so I kept my makeup simple with bronzer and a little bit of blush, a sharp eye liner and lots of mascara with a glossy nude lip. I curled my long blonde hair and brushed it back out so it was wavy to just below my boobs. The midi dress Jenny had picked out for me fitted every curve on my body, I was slim and the warrior training I threw myself into gave me curves most girls would die for. I looked every ounch the gym bunny with out ever actually stepping foot in one. “WOW the hourglass on you girl!” Jenny says as I look over myself in the mirror. “Do I look okay, is it too much?” I ask nervously. “Okay, you look smoking girl, own it!” She says coming to stand next to me and I blush. Jenny was wearing a black skater dress that came to her mid-thigh showing off her long legs, and her jet black waist length hair was tidy up tight in a high pony. She was beautiful and her green eyes shone like emeralds. I had one final look at myself and took in a deep breath. You’ve got this Alice I told myself, just tonight to go and then we can start a new life here however we want it. I grabbed a denim jacket out of my wardrobe and decided tonight I was going to enjoy just being me. I drove us to the pack house, as I pulled up the long driveway I took in the beautiful house for our Alpha and his family. It was enormous more like a country manor than a home for a werewolf family. Its light stone walls were decorated with beautiful flowers under each window and huge hanging baskets at either side of its double dark oak doors. It was stunning, Alpha Sam and his family sure did have some taste. I parked the car out front along with the others as the driveway turned into a make shift car park for the night. Stepping out of the car I could hear the music in the distance and a light hum of people chatting. We made our way to the double doors which were left open and a trail of candles formed an alter towards the back of the house and out onto the patio. I could smell a faint scent of Vanilla and coco, I would have to ask the Luna where she bought her candles from they smelt delicious and I need some for the bathroom at home. Just thinking of a taking a relaxing bath with them lite made me release any negativity from my body. We saw my mum and some of her friends and their children so we grabbed a drink and headed over to the table they were sat on. After a round of hugs and congratulations on the new apartment, asking if we were settled in and lots of questions about Jenny and Jaxon, we decided to have a wonder around. Everyone in the pack was here, we all seemed to love a full moon bonfire and the Alpha and his family loved an excuse to get everyone together. “Alice.” I heard the Luna say from behind me. “Oh hello Alice, how are you?” Alpha Sam asked. “Luna, Alpha Sam.” I nodded my head in a slight bow, “I’m very good thank you, me and Jenny moved into our new apartment today ready for college in a couple of weeks.” “Oh how wonderful!” Luna Elise said, “You must be so excited to start something new.” “I am thank you, it will be a nice change.” I smile at the Luna, she has always been such a kind and caring soul – no wonder she was destined to an Alpha. I sniffed the air slightly getting a small whiff of vanilla and coco again which reminded me of the candles, “The candles in the entrance are amazing Luna where did you get them from I’d love one for the apartment?” “Oh thank you dear, I did try to make the place look as welcoming as possible. I’ll tell you what I will buy you some as a house warming gift.” She smiled at me. “Jenny! Jenny!” I heard Jaxon shout, and I rolled my eyes as he approached us. He rushed over and gave her a big hug and kiss making her blush. I rolled my eyes again when I got a smell of vanilla and coco again from the candles off of Jax, he must have been inside helping the Alpha and Luna’s son Nate. “I’m going to go for a walk around guys.” I said heading towards the pack house. “Want me to come with you?” Jenny asked, but I could see the love-struck eyes she was giving Jaxon. “No its fine you guys spend some time together I won’t be too long.” I reply. I weave my way through people saying quick hello’s to them as some of them recognise me, smiling politely while trying not to give the impression I wanted to talk. My mind needed a break so I decided to walk through the pack house, the candles smell wafting over me making me feel all warm inside, then straight out the front door and into the woods on my left. I’d always found the woods around here so calming, the faint animal noses and the noise the wind made blowing through the trees. It was blissful. I stood for a moment taking in the smell of the wood and the sounds around me. There was a small footpath leading through the trees, so I started walking along it. My wolf was going crazy desperate to get out for some reason, maybe because I was in the woods and she loved to run. But I didn’t want anyone seeing a wolf in the trees from the bonfire and it causing a stir them thinking it was rougues. I turned to make sure no one was watching me and when satisfied I started to run. Zara my wolf was still itching to get out clawing at the surface, I pushed her down as I picked up the pace running. I was so focused on keeping Zara at bay I wasn’t concentrating on what she was trying to say to me, until it was too late. An overwhelming scent of vanilla and coco like the candles invaded my senses and distracted me when I saw someone stood right in my path. Skidding to holt I realised what it was that Zara was screaming at me, “MATE!”
