Dylan answered “I don’t want any of your treat so may you excuse me” “okay no problem but” she faced her friends said brightly. “…my friends want to play with you, that’s Kyle, Sammy, Avier.” waving toward her friends. “…We’re friendly.” Dylan nodded curtly, returning his gaze to his notebook. “…I see.”
“…Quiet type, huh?” Daisy teased softly. “…Interesting.” “I know.” She blinked. “You… know?” “You talk a lot.”
Kyle almost fell off his chair laughing. “BROOO 😭”
Daisy’s jaw dropped. “…Excuse me?!”
Dylan didn’t respond, but for the first time the corner of his lips almost moved. Almost.
Back Row – A Different Story
Meanwhile, Sammy nudged Avier gently.
“I think this is going to be interesting.” Avier finally looked up.
Her eyes moved from Daisy… to Dylan. Then back to her sketch.
“…Yeah,” she said quietly. “It is.”
Dylan didn’t answer. But inside, a small spark of intrigue ignited. She was loud, confident, and unafraid and somehow, that made him uncomfortable… and curious continued with stories. During lunch Dylan sat alone eating then a girl whose name was Rahel came to talk to him, she was a school girl campus belle loved by most boys since the first day Dylan reported in class she has set her eyes on seducing him since he seemed from a rich family. “hi D can I sit with you” she said to him but Dylan didn’t speak with her at all she felt embarrassed and decided to pretend her friends calling for her and left from the table. “wow, I never thought your meal is this expensive, guys let’s sit here” Daisy said to her friends and sat down at the table which Dylan has sat without asking for his permission also her friends joined her at the table since her friends were extrovert just like, they spoke a lot made fun until their lunch break.
As the day unfolded, Daisy introduced Dylan to her friends, though he mostly observed, saying little. Kyle attempted to strike up a conversation, and Sammy tried joking around, but Dylan’s short answers and hesitant demeanour made the group laugh more than engage him.
“…He’s like a cat,” Sammy whispered to Daisy. “…A very grumpy cat.”
“…Shh,” Daisy hissed, trying not to laugh. “…He’s just… cautious. Let’s see if we can get him to open up.”
Even in his quietness, Dylan noticed their genuine warmth. Something about Daisy’s laughter made the classroom feel less overwhelming.
Lunchtime arrived. Students spilled into the cafeteria, chatting and swapping meals. Dylan found a quiet corner, pulling out a sandwich and his notebook.
“…Don’t be so anti-social,” Daisy teased, appearing at his table. “…Come sit with us!”
“…I… prefer quiet,” Dylan muttered.
“…Hmm,” Daisy said thoughtfully, placing herself across from him. “…Challenge accepted.”
From that moment, Dylan realized that Daisy wouldn’t leave him alone. She was loud, persistent, and unafraid everything he wasn’t. And secretly… he didn’t entirely mind, Dylan seemed getting used to their noise. After few weeks’ classes continued as normal and everyone seemed already gotten used to school and new friends they have especially Dylan who was used to Daisy and her group. Classes continued, Teachers droned, but the real entertainment came from Kyle and Sammy’s antics pranks, whispers, and jokes that made the classroom explode into laughter periodically. Dylan stayed reserved, watching silently, but Daisy’s occasional nudges and playful remarks made him c***k small, reluctant smiles.
“…See?” Daisy whispered during a free period. “…Not so bad having friends.”
“…Maybe,” Dylan admitted quietly, “…if you call this friendship.”
“…I do,” Daisy said with a grin, “…and soon, you’ll see it too.”
