LAMAR POV

I was leaving a meeting to head to the club to meet up with De’Shaun when I was hit by a door. My contracts went flying from the folder. This amazing scent of mint and vanilla hit me like two SUVs in a head-on collision. I looked up to see this scrawny-light-skinned girl with curly hair pulled up into a ponytail.

“MATE”

Zeus kept yelling in my head. She can’t be our mate. I mean she is kind of pretty, but look at her. Isn’t she the girl we saw getting beaten by Mrs. King the other day. The more I thought about it, anger started to wash over me.

“Zeus, I can’t take her as our mate. I don’t sense a wolf. If I am to take a mate, it will be to get stronger. It will be when I am ready. I want to choose the mate that is for me.”

“She is ours. I will not allow you to reject her.”

I rolled my eyes. My wolf was so stubborn. He did not understand a mate like this who was weak. She literally got thrown out of the car and slapped to the ground. She looks like she has not eaten. She looks like if I f**k her, she would break. But why can’t I get that simple touch of her hand out of my head? I took a deep breath and headed to the club.

“What’s wrong bro?”

“I think I found my mate, but she is nothing I expected. I only got her first name. I want to reject her.”

“Lamar, are you crazy! A mate is chosen by the Goddess herself.”

“A mate is also supposed to make you stronger and if you saw her you would understand.”

I sat down behind my desk to prop my feet up. Zeus was unsettled in my head. De’Shaun made 2 drinks of cognac. I guess it was 5pm somewhere. Wolves don’t get drunk like humans. To feel a buzz, we would put wolfbane in it, however, we couldn’t use much because it was poison to us.

“Son, where are you?”

“At the club, dad”, I mind linked back.

“There’s an attack. I need you to….

“DAD! DAD!” “Where do you need me?”

I instantly jumped up. I told De’Shaun what was going on. We ran out and hopped in my car. As soon as we were near an open field, I stopped the car, and we transformed into our wolf form. My sister and brothers were not answering me through our mind link. My heart was racing fast. We were about 15 minutes away. I sent a message to all the warriors.

“I smell smoke and blood. Lots of blood”

I started running faster.

“Rogues”

What the f**k! We haven’t had a rogue attack since my dad became Alpha. Everyone that was in the city was back in the heat of battle. I saw one ready to attack my sister from the back. Zeus quickly jumped up like he was floating in the air, coming down with his teeth through the rogue’s neck, and ripping its head off. To the left, I saw pups running for safety but two more were after them. At full speed, Zeus took his paw and knocked one in the air. When it landed, it hit a tree branch through its chest. The next one, Zeus was on its back biting through its neck. I mind linked the pups to run to the pack house, but they said it was on fire. I couldn’t show how scared I was thinking about my parents. I managed to tell them to run to the training grounds, hide in the gym, and lock the doors.

Looking down at the wolf, he started going back into its human form. It was a young boy no older than 18. Like he just gotten his wolf.

“I didn’t want to do this. I can’t control myself. He said if I helped him, that I would not have to worry about anything.”

“Who said? What the f**k are you talking about?”

“D-D-D-onte”

I felt a sharp pain go through my chest. Then another hit me. Three more.

“My sweet boy, just know that I love you, and we will always be with…”

I howled in pain. The next thing I remember was a surge of power going through me.

“They are all dead” I heard De’Shaun say through the link.

“Gather all the dead. Burn the rogue bodies. We don’t need any attention being brought to us. I got a name. Donte. I want to know who the f**k he is, where the f**k he lives, and who the f**k he is with. I want them dead by the end of the week.”

“Yes, Alpha”
