Danielle POV
“Excuse me, watch where you’re going”
“You bumped into me, and you think I am wrong, tahhh the audacity” I said. The girl looked at me up and down. Folding her arms with arrogance, “I know you. You’re the b***h from the café that was flirting with Lamar. Pretend bumping and s**t to get his attention. Yea I saw you. All you hoes are just the same!”
“I don’t know what you are talking about. I am just here to enjoy my birthday. You have the wrong one.”
I try to hold Sky back as she tries to push through. I could see that she had been crying. I understand that whatever she was going through, I was her scapegoat for her anger. “Watch out, Dannie,” Sky said. Before I could let her take control, the girl took a swing at me. I managed to step back but slipped on a wet spot on the floor. Luckily Donte was there to catch my fall, even though he gave me the creeps. “You should leave because starting something you can’t finish can end badly.”
The young lady rolled her eyes as she turned on her heels to leave. “Excuse me, I have to make a call beautiful,” Donte said as he was walking off.
“Wow, Danielle, I always figured you were a w***e. Flirting with Donte in front of your sister knowing that is her man, and now this”
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Sick of my sister and her friends, I walked over to the bar to get a drink with my fake ID.
“Truth hurts. You are not even denying that you are f*****g Donte. You shameless b***h. To think that he is interested in you. I mean look at you.”
“Now girls, you know that Donte and I are just friends,” Kelly chimed in with a devious smirk.
“I wish I could rip their lips off their faces,” Sky said, I began to laugh.
I ordered a long island iced tea and requested top shelf liquor, because after that scene and dealing with these three idiots, I just wanted to be drunk. About five drinks in, Kelly gives me a drink. “No hard feelings. The better girl won his heart,” she said. “Cheers!” We all clashed our cups together and downed our drinks.
“Well, you little b***h. I give you a roof over your head and you steal from me!” Mom yelled. Mom was an excellent martial artist, and dad was a great boxer. She won all her competitions, while dad stopped boxing undefeated with a record of 25-0, all knockouts. I yelped in pain as she grabbed me by my shoulder applying pressure to a pressure point. I called out to Sky, but it was as if she was gone. “I didn’t steal anything, I swear it,” I cried out!
“Stop lying Danielle. We all saw you with mom’s diamond bracelet dad gave her on their first anniversary. You know she treasures that bracelet. For you to steal it and then wear it here like it is yours. Shameless b***h indeed,” Kelly said.
“Yea Mrs. King, she even said that she didn’t have to go back to live under your roof because she had enough money until she got a job to live on.”
“Where did you get the money, if you did not steal my bracelet,” mom yelled.
My eyes got big as golf balls. How could she lie blatantly with no proof. The crowd of people circled around us. I was so thankful that security appeared.
“Mam, I am going to have to ask you to leave voluntarily or involuntarily. Nothing personal but if you choose involuntarily, I will be forced to do what I have to do and call the police. Let’s just make it easy on both of us,” the security guard stated firmly.
Still holding on to me, my mom just looked the man up and down as if he was nothing but dirt on the bottom of her shoes. “Call the police and let’s see how you explain harboring a thief, on top of underage drinking.” The security guard looked at all of us with disgust.
“Look mom, here it is,” Kelly yells, waving mom’s jewelry. Where the f**k did that come from? Suddenly, I felt immense pain in my abdomen. “Kelly, what did you put in my drink,” I whimpered.
“Now that you are caught stealing, you want to fake being sick. “This is something that only happens on TV,” someone from the crowd yells.
I felt myself fading. All at once, I vomited blood all over mom. She shrieked in revulsion. My insides were on fire. I did not feel Sky, but then again I knew I was new to all of this. It can still just all be a dream or maybe schizophrenia from all the years of abuse.
“Mrs. King, to what do we owe this wonderful surprise visit,” a man in Prada shoes said.
I looked up to catch a glimpse of him only to realize, it was the man from the café. He pulled out his phone to show mom a video. She glared at Kelly as if her eyes were swords. Kelly put her head down.
“My apologies, Lamar. It seems that I have been misinformed. I will handle this at home. Let’s go girls.”
“Mrs. King, I have called my private doctor for your daughter. Jake, take her upstairs to my office suite.”
“Lamar, this is a family matter. I can handle this.”
“And I am sure you can, Mrs. King, however, someone dying before or after leaving my club is not a good look. Do you think I should call Mr. King for his input on the situation?”
“I suppose you are right. Please bring Danielle home after she has been seen by the doctor. Make sure she doesn’t have any diseases. She can be quite the filthy animal.”
The pain from my mom’s words cut deeper than the pain I was feeling. How could she feel this way about me, when I have done nothing to either of them. The lights go out. I start to hyperventilate reliving my childhood when mom would get angry and lock me in the basement with no food or water. Only a bucket to use the bathroom. I feel my body ready to give out.
The light came back on moments later, but those few moments felt like days. Sweat was running down my forehead. I looked down to see the girl that was arguing with dead at my feet. I scream out as I let the darkness take over me.
