BETRAYED BY MY OWN

CARRISSA’S POV The school was abuzz with a series of events. Girls strutted around school with perfectly styled hair and nail extensions. I shook my head as I sliced my way through the busy hallway to my class. It was barely two days till the mating festival and everyone was filled with the hope of being mated with the one fated to them by the moon goddess. My heartbeat picked up when the thought crossed my mind. I was going to be eighteen tomorrow, that means I was going to get my wolf. My heart fluttered in my chest as the mental image of having another being filled me. Everyone hoped to be blessed with a wolf. Some were unfortunate and didn't get one and my pack treated them unjustly. Chloe had her wolf on our seventeenth birthday and I remember the snarky look on her face when I didn't get mine. I was so blinded by my thoughts I didn't see the door in front of me, until I hit my head hard against it. “Ouch!” I groaned, the impact had happened on that same spot Chloe had inflicted the injury on me. “Goddamit! You're not just obese but also clumsy?” A stern voice drawl. Biting my lower lips to push back the pain, I slowly lifted my chin to meet a pair of bored eyes, staring me down and my heart flipped with a mixture of anger and fear. Curly brown hair, long lashes that nested sea-green eyes, long pointy nose, well defined pink lips that made my heart thump in the ribcage, much to my chagrin. The figure before me made me feel every kind of emotion I loathed. “I-I-I…I'm sorry I didn't see you here.” I managed to get the words out, through the callous expression in his eyes. Ethan Daston scoffed, his gaze solely fixed on me. He was the older twin of the pack's Alpha. Rude. Obnoxious. Insensitive and hands down a bully were the right words to describe him. For some reason, he hated me to a fault and had no problem showing it in the public eye. During school hours, in class and even in the school cafe! I wasn't spared, not even in the slightest. Both he and his brother were a thorn I wouldn't mind getting out. They picked on random students in school, but it was terrible when it came to me. It appeared like Chloe fed them with lies that made them unable to stand me. “Of course, when you're so blind. I mean, take a good look at yourself. You should alternate between the gym and the patrol ground, except of course you can't last a second before you're knocked out.” A chuckle pounded in my ears, Chloe walked up beside Ethan and rested her hands on his shoulders. “Ethan darling, that's my sister you know.” Her voice was devoid of sympathy, before her eyes rested on me, “The favorite fat twin, except that Mom sees through her sharade.” I rested my hands on my hips. “Look who's talking!” the words fell out of my mouth like it was waiting for this minute all along. “And so what if I'm fat? Huh?” Chloe's eyes almost popped out of its socket at my words. Her lips fell apart as if to speak but she clamped it back shut. Etha glared at me, but I guess I've had it up to here. Any more incidents and I might just lose it. I already have a lot going on at work, and the house wasn't helping matters either. “Carrissa!” Ethan's voice thundered through the hallways, attracting the stares of the passerby students. He breathed hard on me, his eyebrows pinched together in frustration. “How dare you talk to Chloe like that in my presence?” I rolled my eyes, unapologetic about my actions. “Maybe if she wasn't such a jerk that picks on her own sister.” I fired back. Ethan's face turned scarlet. “What did…” his tone trembled with anger, clearly flabbergasted at my retort. “Did you just respond to me?” I should mostly ignore and be on my way, but for some reason I was in high spirits to indulge him and give them the taste of their own embarrassment. No students stood up to them, they cowered before Alpha's sons and Chloe. Since she was their friend, the rest of the students accorded her some respect. I shook my head slowly. “I'll do that over and over again if you don't leave me the hell alone!” With that, I brushed past them straight into the class. “I swear with my life, I'm going to make her regret this.” Chloe fumed. All through the class, I could feel the angry states of other students, they'd probably seen what had happened with Ethan and Chloe, and had a bunch of crazy ideas in their head. “There's only one thing to do right after class...run.” I muttered under my breath. I'd rather be far away from them allow them pick on me as usual. I'd sit that out thank you. The other periods went by in a haze, fear curled at the pit of my stomach as I waited with bated breath for the final bell to go off. “Clannnngggggg!!!” The minute the loud sharp sound of the bell filled my ears and I made to trail behind the other students, as they filed out of the class when a sharp pain stopped me in my tracks. Chloe cackled. “Not so fast sister…” she seethed with annoyance, clenching her hand tight around my hair. I groaned, fighting back the pain. “Let. Me. Go.” Embarrassment tinted my cheeks when students began to dig out their phone from their pocket to record the scene in front of them. “I'd never thought there'll be a day I'd see Chloe take on Carissa.” One girl muttered to her friend and chuckled. “It’s about time someone put fatty in her place.” The other snarked in response. I made to shove her hands away when stronger hands snaked around my arms, holding me in position. “Chloe, I guess our trap had caught the big rat… or should I say a raccoon.” Mocking laughter sliced through the air around me. “Let me goooo!” My voice was raised. Ethan's eyes narrowed and his facial expression turned devilish. “Maybe if you say the magic words, I'd have a change of—” I splashed my mouth liquid on his face and he swallowed the rest of his words. “That's for being a jerk!” I spat. Blows and punches descended on me until blood trickled from the corner of my head.
