Chapter 12

Daniel’s POV- I stood staring at where she had run off out of the room, my hand touching where she had pressed a kiss to my cheek. She said she had never even kissed a boy, so was that the first time she had kissed a guy on the cheek? “Aye, lover boy, let’s go. Prez wants us back, you know that,” Mike called out, his cheek red. I snapped out of the daze I was in the moment I heard Prez. I chuckled, “Nice hand print.” “Yeah, b***h could slap. What has you all dazed?” he asked. “Olivia kissed my cheek before she ran out of the room.” I replied. “So, it went well. She believes you.” He said. I nodded, “She is going to confront her mother and grab some things. I have given her an hour, and then I am going to get her. She agreed to that.” “Man, stop smiling, you are giving me the creeps.” Mike chuckled, nudging me along to our bikes. What can I say? I was smiling, I couldn’t help it. Megan approached us with Benny trailing behind her, and she asked, “Is it true what Benny told me?” “That we know who Olivia’s biological dad is, yes,” I nodded. “And, you let her go home to confront her mother alone,” Megan’s face turned red with anger. “She wanted it that way,” I said. “You go get her father, and you get to that house as soon as you can.” Megan said. “Why?” I asked. “Who do you think taught her to do make-up that well? That woman sat by and did nothing while her husband hurt her child. You think she is safe around that woman, then you are delusional.” Megan said. Mike and I exchanged looks. Megan was right on that. Someone has to teach her to do make-up that well. How many years had he been abusing her for? How long had her mother sat by and done nothing? “We will get her out of there.” I said, before Mike and I nodded and sprinted off with Devil and Phoenix hot on our heels. We wasted no time in jumping onto our bikes and speeding out of the school parking lot. Breaking every speed limit between school and the clubhouse was probably not the best thing to do. Not that we would get pulled over by the police. With our agreements in place with them, they stay out of our way, and we do their dirty work. Things they can’t do because they are the police and have to follow rules. We got to the clubhouse in record time. I got off my bike straight away and ran inside. Gold was pacing back and forth, he was clearly agitated. A man in an expensive suit was sat going over paperwork nearby. The moment Gold saw me, he rushed over, “Did she believe you? Is she okay? What is she doing?” “I think she believed me. She tried to blame herself for not trying to look for you more because of how close you have always been. I told her it wasn’t her fault, because neither of you knew. She told me she wanted to confront her mother and that she would gather some of her things. She told me if I don’t hear from her in a couple of hours, then I have to come and find her. I told her an hour. She has 45 minutes left. She told me the location of her bedroom, so that she could wave for our guys that are watching the house if there is trouble. I rushed here to tell you, so I haven’t told them yet.” I replied. “I will tell them.” Dad said. “Her bedroom window is on the left side of the house above the driveway,” I said to my dad. He moved away to make the call. Gold asked quietly, “Do you think she will like me?” “The surprise on her face said it all. I don’t think her mother ever really spoke to her about you.” I replied. “Okay, well, let’s hope that she wants to meet me,” Gold sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “Don’t forget about what Megan said.” Mike coughed. I rolled my eyes, as Gold said, “Who is Megan?” “Olivia’s best friend. She told us that her mother was the one who taught Olivia how to apply make-up. I think Megan thinks that her mother might betray her. It does worry me, which is why we hurried here. We figured we could see what you guys say before we go charging to her house in broad daylight.” I explained. Gold and Prez exchanged looks. I could tell Gold was as conflicted as I am. CB stepped forward and said, “What is her number? I can at least try and track the phone.” I texted him her number, so he could track it. As Prez said, “As much as we should all go around there right now, we need to be ready to move, either when our men say there is danger or when Olivia says to come to her. You don’t want to push too hard, too fast, Gold, because you don’t know how she will react.” “I know I just hate the waiting,” Gold sighed. “You and me...” Before I could finish my sentence, CB all but yelled, “How in the f**k?” Everyone turned towards him so fast that I am surprised none of us got whiplash. Prez growled, “What is going on?” “I can’t track her phone,” CB said. Gold rushed over to look at CB’s laptop screen, as I asked, “How? I have never known you not to be able to do something tech-related.” “Olivia must be some kind of off-the-charts genius with tech. Christ, this encryption would make the pentagon jealous. She wrote the code for it too... wait a minute... no way,” CB gasped, his jaw dropping to the floor. “What is it?” Gold asked. “I think Olivia might be a very famous and mysterious hacker. The code she wrote to encrypt her phone is similar to the code I have seen before. You remember that company we tried to take down, but before I could hack into it and find the evidence. It was hacked into and shared everywhere. Made my job a lot easier.” CB replied. “What is her handle?” Gold inquired. “Nova. Short for supernova. She has destroyed entire computer systems and disabled security features like it was nothing. I was half expecting Nova to be some incredibly rich individual who had the latest and greatest tech, not a school girl.” CB responded. “You sound impressed,” Prez said. CB nodded, “And jealous of c*****e. You best take good care of her. She is one hell of a woman.” “I plan too,” I responded, narrowing my eyes on CB. “Did she tell you she likes you?” Gold asked. “Not yet,” I replied. “What does that mean?” Gold asked. Katie chuckled, “The girl likes him, she just doesn’t want to admit it.” “She also kissed him on the cheek, before she left school.” Mike added, gesturing to me. I tried to hide my smile, as I pulled my phone from my pocket. It has been twenty minutes since we arrived here. How much longer were we going to have to wait for her to contact me? I know I said an hour, but what was I going to do in that time? I ended up staring at her contact information on my phone, silently hoping she would call soon. Gold patted my shoulder. I looked up at him, as he said, “Text her, before you drive yourself crazy.” Jesus, I had been sat staring at my phone for ten minutes. She only had fifteen minutes, and then I said I would come for her. I immediately shot her a text message asking if she was alright and how things were going. I could feel Gold hovering over my shoulder. I could tell he wanted to go to her as much as I did. My phone started ringing, her call ID flashing up on my screen. “She is calling, everyone shut up!” I called out, before answering the phone. “Hey Olivia, are you okay?” “She lied to me about everything. She admitted he was my father. I want to meet him. I packed my suitcase and duffle bag. I just need to load my truck up, then we can meet.” Olivia said. “Where would you like to meet him? Maybe, your favorite bakery?” Olivia chuckled on the other end of the phone. “You know my...” She went silent, and then I heard a muttered curse, and what sounded like screeching brakes. “Olivia, what is going on?” “He is home.” Olivia groaned on the other end of the phone, before continuing, “s**t, he nailed my windows shut. He is already in the house.” “Lock your bedroom door, barricade it. We are on our way.” I was already running for the door, knowing the others would follow, including Gold and his lawyer. I could hear her moving things around trying to barricade herself in. It was going to take us time to get there. I knew Prez wouldn’t move the guys in until he knew Olivia was about to be attacked. “I will, but when you get here, you make sure to grab my phone, I am going to hide it, with my stuff.” Olivia said quickly. Then I heard the banging, what sounded like yelling and arguing in the distance. I hopped on my bike, as I heard an almighty crash. I told the guys he broke into her room, so we were out of time. Prez started trying to call the guys, as the line went dead, just as I heard her cry out from being struck. “We need to hurry and get to her. I have lost her,” I said, as I started my engine and drove off. They were all with me, but we were hitting rush hour traffic, which meant if we weren’t careful, we were going to hit a gridlock nightmare. It would only delay us. It didn’t help the panic in Gold or me, when Prez said he couldn’t get a hold of our guys just outside her house. The way the line went dead, I can only assume a signal jammer or something. Probably to prevent her from calling for help, which just worried me even more. That alone made us hurry more than we probably should have. But it caught the attention of the local Police Chief, our contact in the police. He soon joined us in hurrying to get to her.
