Daniel’s POV-
I leaned against the wall, near Katie, and pulled out my own pack of cigarettes. I decided after that and for this conversation, I needed a smoke.
I sighed, glaring at her friends, hoping they would get the hint.
Katie groaned beside me, before growling, “Why are you here? Did my brother send you?”
I shook my head, chuckling, pulling my lighter from my jacket pocket, and lit my cigarette. The longer I didn’t say anything, the more Katie’s friends got antsy. They really didn’t like her brother or me, for that matter.
Katie sighed, “You guys, better go. I will see you in class.”
Her friends nodded and ran off, even the boy who had his arm around her.
I chuckled, “So, who is he to you?”
“He is someone showing an interest in me. You won’t tell Mike, will you?” she asked, turning to face me, as I brought my cigarette to my mouth and inhaled deeply.
When I pulled away the cigarette, I said, “No... if you help me, I want it a secret for now.”
“What with?” she asked, surprised.
I had never asked for her help before, so of course it was a surprise.
“Olivia,” I whispered.
“I knew it, you like her, don’t you? I could see the way you look at her, even if my ignorant brother couldn’t,” Katie smiled, brightly. She hated Sarah and Dana for how they bullied Olivia, and would openly tell her brother.
I smiled and nodded.
She gasped, “You smiled. My god, I didn’t think it was possible. But what can I do to help you?”
“I saw her this morning, it looked like she had slept in her car in the parking lot at the lake. She went into the public bathroom in one outfit and came out in a different outfit. I think she might be getting abused at home, and I want to help, but I don’t know how to approach the topic,” I replied.
“Well, I heard a bit of what she and her friends were discussing earlier. Did you know that the man who raised her, the man her mother is married too, isn’t her biological father?” she said.
My eyes widened a little in surprise. Olivia never really spoke about her home life, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. But it does not make her being abused all the more likely.
Katie sighed, “They were talking about trying to find her biological father, through a birthmark that they share.”
“I wanted to ask whether you think that her eyes look familiar. There is something about them that looks familiar,” I said.
“Yeah, Gold. His eyes and her eyes are nearly identical in color. Have you not noticed that?” she asked.
I paused thinking. I never really stared into a ranked brother’s eyes before. That would be weird.
Gold is the club’s treasurer. He runs his own multi-billion-dollar company, and the first thing he brought when he made it big, was a gold bike. Hence, why, he got the name Gold. He does have green eyes. It would explain why I get that familiar feeling when I look into Olivia’s eyes, they have the same color.
“He has a birthmark on his lower back, just above his hip. I remember that from sparring with him. You don’t think?”
“I have seen his birthmark briefly, and yeah, I remember the shape of it. He had been with a woman for quite a few years, they were very serious from what I heard. Then she up and left. No one ever said why to me. So, it is possible,” Katie replied.
“How would we even go about finding out and proving it?” I asked.
“Let me follow her around, see what I can gather, and see if I can confirm the abuse as well. When I know anything, I will come find you,” she responded.
“Thank you, it would mean a lot,” I smiled.
“You really like her a lot, don’t you? Not just girlfriend material, but old lady material,” she inquired.
I chuckled, “You read me too well. You are like the annoying little sister that I never had.”
“Well, she may already be a part of our world, she just doesn’t know it yet. So, I will go begin my investigation. You go find my brother, I heard the argument. I don’t blame you, those bitches have the worst coming for them,” she said, a sly smirk spreading across her lips.
It was a smirk I recognized all too well. She was planning something, had already done something to her brother.
“What did you do?”
“She might need new tires and a new paint job,” she replied, as she flicked her cigarette away, and began walking off.
She wiggled her fingers at me as she walked off. As much as her father and brother both think she wouldn’t be cut out for the life of a Knight, she would be. She is like them in so many ways, not that any of them would admit it. They want her to have a normal life away from the Phoenix Knights.
Why? Because a few years back, all us Knights over fifteen got called up, there was a war between us and another rival biker crew. Mike and Katie lost their mother. When I mean lost, she just vanished, and we don’t know where she went. All we know is that there was a struggle, and two Knights were killed. CB, Cyber Blaze, is still trying to find a trace of her.
Mike’s dad, Prez, has literally revamped security everywhere now. The clubhouse is a literal fortress, and every house on the land the club owns is built and owned by the club. From a distance, it looks like a gated community.
I rest my head against the wall, looking up at the sky. I heard the sound of heavy boots slowly approaching me. I looked to see Devil approaching me. He signed, “Saw you have a go at Mike and that girl of his.”
I rolled my eyes. For someone of a deadly and emotionless when he kills and pretty much in every aspect of his life. He has been an absolute devil since he was young. He is nineteen, he got held back a year, because he was always missing school or getting into fights. It was Mike’s dad who saved him and brought him into our club when he was twelve.
“You tore into him, that is not like you, but then I know what is on your mind,” he added.
“You do?” I asked.
Devil nodded, “Olivia is on your mind, isn’t she? You look at her the way I look at Phoenix.”
Phoenix is his girlfriend, and honestly I have never seen two more madly in love than them two.
Phoenix was a runaway. At sixteen years old, she ran away from her foster parents to the other end of the country. She got herself emancipated from them so that she could live on her own and not have to worry about dealing with parents or legal guardians. She was in some underground fights when we found her. She is probably the best female fighter I have ever seen. She and Devil hit off right away, and they have been inseparable since. They both come to school here with Mike, Katie and Olivia.
I chuckled, “Yes, she is on my mind. I don’t see how Mike hasn’t noticed that.”
“He is too busy getting his d**k wet with that stupid girlfriend of his, so, of course, he won’t notice. We are all men, we have needs to satisfy,” Devil said.
“We have class, so we better get inside before they mark us as late, and Prez puts us on gate duty,” I responded, flicking my cigarette butt away.
Devil nodded, and we headed off into school to find our crew. Knowing Mike, his skank, Katie, and Phoenix would all be inside somewhere waiting for us both to get there before class starts.
