Caught inside

Their footsteps were getting closer, she could practically feel their breathing. Laviania tried to move but her ankle wouldn’t budge, it had finally given up. Laying on the ground, she closed her eyes. Maybe it would be better if they found her? She’d be exiled or killed- either option seemed okay to her. Just closing her eyes felt like a massive weight off of her. Tiredness took over her body as she felt darkness overcome her. Sounds of rustling leaves caused her to force open her eyes and focus on the clouds above. They were near. No, she couldn’t let them find her. Forcing herself to sit up, she moved towards a tree, hoping it will mask the blood and her. Laviania moved her body with her hands, scratching them up against the ground of twigs and leaves. As soon as her back hit the tree she slumped into it, breathing heavily. “Where has she gone?” Ajax’s voice rung out through the forest, Laviania winced slightly at his tone,” Julie why can’t I smell her?” “It’s the necklace Ajax,” A voice that Lavi was positive belonged to the woman who she was running away from. Turning her head slightly around the tree, Lavi felt something pull her back. As she tried to move forward she realised her necklace was attached to a sharp stick. Pulling a bit too much, the chain snapped. “No!” Laviania exclaimed as quietly as she could. Desperately she tried to gather the chain. Thankfully she still had the locket- as long as she held it the piece of jewellery would hopefully work. It didn’t. Soon she could feel the presence of someone on the other side of the tree. Biting her lip, Lavi felt tears prick her eyes. This was it, she was going to end like this. As much of a relief it would be to leave this world, she still wanted to live a little better. Not like this, please not like this. Adrenaline fuelled her as she stood onto one of her feet, resting a hand on the tree. If she seemed stronger they might not hurt her as badly. Slowly she limped around the tree until she was face to face with Ajax. Her heart fluttered as she broke the stare,’ You win,” The bitter tone seemed to take Ajax aback as a strange sadness overcame his eyes. It was gone within a blink, replaced with a terrifying rage that caused his veins to pulse. This she-wolf had managed to live in his family’s territory for who knows how long- despite being his mate, she wouldn’t get off lightly. Julie came up behind him, smirking as she looked over the girl as a wolf would its kill. Shuddering, Laviania turned away to stare at the ground. Her mind was going a thousand miles a minute as she desperately tried to find a way to escape. Grabbing the girl’s hair, Julie threw her to the ground- Lavi had no strength to fight it. The ground was hard against her already cut and bruised skin. Groaning, she hoisted herself so her face was levitating millimetres from the ground. A growl erupted behind her. “Julie!” Ajax shouted, Lavi’s ears winced,” Go! I’ll deal with her,” There was silence, Laviania did not dare to turn around,” But Ajax… she-“ “No, I don’t want to hear it,” Ajax hissed, Julie’s shoulders tensed but soon released under his stone-cold glare. The sound of footsteps running off gave Laviania the courage to turn around and look behind her. It hurt to stretch her neck but it ached against the tired muscles. There was little energy left but she had to fight. “So little mate- how long have you been here?” Ajax questioned, a slightly amused-annoyed smirk on his lips. Pushing herself into a sitting position, Laviania stared him down. She hated to admit it but there was a strong presence that surrounded Ajax, it lured her in and took all of her strength not to allow it to happen. Bright eyes awaited her response, she’d forgotten he’d asked a question she had gotten so lost in thought. No, she can’t let the mate bond come in between them. He could kill her and move on. Shaking her head, she strongly glared back at him,” Long enough,” Anger overcame Ajax’s face as he knelt down, grabbing Lavi’s hair and pulling her close,” As much as I don’t want to hurt you you’re not giving me any other choice,” Him holding her like that hurt a lot more than any bullet wound or knife she had been thrown into. Her heart broke into his hands that gripped her hair tightly. Tears pricked in her eyes, stinging her pupils and running down her mud stained face. Inside her mouth she could taste blood from the cut on her lip that didn’t feel like healing. Slowly the face in front of her became blurry, very fluid. Blinking Laviania tried to refocus but every time she closed her eyes she felt her head become lighter. Half of her body became limp as her eyelids fluttered shut. Ajax nearly dropped her from the shock of her collapse. Instinctively his arms tightened around her frail, frail body. He couldn’t help it, he had to touch her pale skin, run his hand through her dull yet still vibrant against anyone else’s hair. One thing that did bother him was how little she felt in his arms. Something had to be wrong, he may not get the answers now but he would later. “We are so lucky to have such a beautiful mate,”A voice mused in his head,”But she is too thin, and bruised. The poor thing looks like she has been through a lot,” Looking back down at the girl in his arms, Ajax understood what his wolf, Haydn, meant. Standing on his feet, the young-adult carried his mate bridal style through the forest, in the general direction of his home. He’ll have to explain to his parents who she was but they don’t have the power to tell him what to do anymore. Not since he took over the role as Alpha within the pack. However, even though she was his mate she’d have to be treated as a rouge until he finds out about her. “Julie,” He mind-linked with his sister,”Prepare my mate the comfiest prison cell we have,” Despite not being anyway near her, he could hear Julie’s laughter at the irony in the sentence.
