M stood beside Joseph, while Kent and Rich stood opposite of the room from them. Jenn sat closest to Joseph on a nearby couch while Connor and Caleb sat beside him.
"You haven't said much," Joseph said, gesturing to Caleb. "You're a wolf, too, yes?"

"He's the one who saved me that night on the beach."
Kent snorted. "Saved you?"
"Well, it's better than dead," Connor said, speaking for his son. "Unlike you all."
"We aren't dead," Kent said, his jaw tighter than Joseph had seen it before and his eyes fierce. "We are exceptional. More than mere pets, that's for sure."
