Mason POV
***
"Really brother?! I ask you one little crazy favor, and you decide to blow our whole cover." I couldn't help but be irritated by Carter's reaction to meeting our mate. He couldn't control himself at all. It was as if he was about to go all caveman on her. "I know, I'm sorry. I just_For the life of me, I couldn't keep my cool. My wolf was going on like a maniac, when that woman tried touching mate." I could tell that he was getting aggravated with recalling the incident, so I didn't push the matter any further. He took a few hits of my vape and instantly calmed down. "In order for her to even like us, we have to stay calm and be patient. You've always been the more resilient one, this is just another challenge brother, keep your head." I looked Carter in the eyes as I spoke, and I could see something altering behind them. It was like a switch going off inside his head. Something we unknowingly shared as twins, a dark secret embedded within our DNA. The whole reason why our mother still lives after losing her mate. It wasn't his wolf, but it lingered behind his eyes. "Come, let's head back in there and make tonight memorable."
"Mmh."
Freya POV
***
The night was filled with loud music, expensive champagne and fancy snacks. An hour or two after the flashing cameras disappeared, the celebration died down as well. I took a break from standing around on my killer heels all night and lolled on my soon to be 'boss lady' chair. I relaxed since it was now just my team and one or two drunk dates floozing around. I haven't had any time to savour the fact that I'm a manager of a whole gallery now, and seeing my name plate on the desk just felt so surreal. I want to celebrate tonight, but I don't know whether we should just leave without letting the CEO's know. I mean, that would definitely be unprofessional and I'm already under their eyes. I can't take any chances. "Hey, let's go familiarise ourselves with some bars or clubs or whatever it is that Boise has to offer. We need to really celebrate this new lifestyle. I read that they have a few spots for singles. We might as well, huh Freya?! I mean, it's not like we can bone our two irresistibly hot and handsome, most probably married, bosses anyway?!_" Lisa whisper yelled miserably as she dramatically slumped down on one of the open seats, before jumping back up out of shock. "Well Lisa, if you're talking about us...weirdly enough we're neither married nor interested. I believe the right person will find us." Mason spoke in a husky tone while gazing over at me. 'F**k!'
"Also, I apologise for our earlier conversation being cut short, but we had a few things to sort out."
"I'm sorry sir, I-I didn't me__"
"It's okay, we've been called way worse. Now, how about we introduce you to the nightlife of Boise? Mr Kellaway will escort you lot and the new boss lady can catch a ride with us." Lisa looked at me with envious eyes as she and the others headed for the front door. Mr Kellaway smiled and nodded my way before leaving for his car. I was stuck with these two Greek Gods and an already fuzzy brain from their expensive champagne. I couldn't handle how they stared at me like I was a tasty buffet, so I too, jumped up and tried heading for the door before I embarrass myself. Walking towards them, I caught their distinctive scents. One, deep forest green and the other ocean blue. Both scents perfectly blended as it mixed at my nostrils and sends tingles down to my core. Before I could pass them, the abrupt baritone voice of Carter nonplussed my whole demeanour. "Freya, you are officially the boss of this gallery now. Who do you think should lock up the place? You can't slack, even if it's your first day." His voice vibrated all the way to my sweet spot as it played my core like a harp. This caused some juices to escape my kitty. My cheeks stained a light shade of pink from embarrassment. He glanced at his brother who smirked my way. "I guess we could help her close a few windows, this time... What do you say brother?" As if trying to hold a proper conversation with them wasn't already excruciating enough. "Sure, but she'll owe us one." Carter clenched through his teeth as he looked down at my body. If I wasn't mentally or physically attracted to them, this behaviour would probably not fly passed me. "Okay, I'll let Kellaway know he can escort the others while we stay and close up." Mason shot a quick text to Mr Kellaway before getting to work. These two closed all the windows and had me sitting in my chair. I couldn't help myself from stealing several glances at them as they stretched out to reach the higher windows. Tormenting me with their defined chiselled features, the gallery grew awkwardly silent as I lost myself staring at their flexing muscles.
"So miss Freya, how do you feel about this new position?" Mason beamed as he most probably caught my stare. "Oh, it's wonderful sir. I mean, I was surprised at first, but soon realised that I deserve it for all the extra hours I put in over the years."
"Okay, so do you think we chose you because you put in extra hours?"
"No, well I know__"
"What do you know miss Freya? Please enlighten us."
"Look, I know we've started off on the wrong foot yesterday, but I know I'm the right person for this position. I'm more capable than I look." Mason had an unfamiliar look in his eyes and I couldn't help feeling uncomfortable under his relentless stare. "Indeed you are." He mumbled under his breath, but the gallery was so silent that it was impossible not to hear what he said. I couldn't meet their eyes as I stood frozen with demure staring at my feet. "Freya, we need to tell you something__"
"Brother..." Carter stopped his brother, but this seemed important by the stern looks that replaced their once enticing eyes. Baffled by the sudden mood change, I tried to lure out what was bothering the polite Mason.
"Is something the matter?"
"Mhm, no. It can wait, by the way, we have to meet up tomorrow afternoon to discuss business. We'll pick you up around noon. Anyway, let's get out of here."
I just nodded, grabbed my purse and moved passed them to the door. Could this be the same reason why they left so abruptly on our meet and greet earlier tonight?
